Diana Ross is her mom.
― C. Grisso/McCain, Friday, 3 August 2007 18:42 (eighteen years ago)
!!
I never realized that, but it makes a whole lot of visual sense.
I don't mean this in a pervy way, but ... her total body weight must be about 40% ass.
― nabisco, Friday, 3 August 2007 18:57 (eighteen years ago)
P.S. After much indecision re: which Girlfriend I found most attractive, I actually hit this point where previously dismissed Toni rocketed up into first place: you spend a while thinking you're above her average/conventional prettiness, but then you realize there is nothing average about that kind of pretty.
Then she leaves the show and she and Joan are "fighting" and the "Joan is NEUROTIC" jokes get really dumb and Maya and Darnell get really boring and they keep putting Lynn in "dramatic" relationships and it all gets pretty bleak. This show started out as a straight analog of Sex and the City, right down to the comic survey interviews and Joan's fourth-wall commentary, but then it also ENDED as a straight analog of Sex and the City, which is to say that it started thinking we really cared about dramatic and/or romantic-comedy arcs of the characters' love-lives, and it got too soap-opera to stay entirely funny.
― nabisco, Friday, 3 August 2007 19:05 (eighteen years ago)
Maya stayed funny, but only when she wasn't dealing with Darnell.
― nabisco, Friday, 3 August 2007 19:06 (eighteen years ago)
i like william
― and what, Friday, 3 August 2007 19:07 (eighteen years ago)

I really thought everyone knew Tracy Ellis Ross was Diana Ross's daughter.

I'm surprised I never noticed it before -- she totally looks like her. I just thought she was surprisingly east-African looking, or something.
William's haircut is a thing of wonder. It's like Frank Gehry designed the perfect shape to fit his head. His marriage toward the end, though, eh.
― nabisco, Friday, 3 August 2007 19:10 (eighteen years ago)
Did his mother ever actually appear on the show?
― nabisco, Friday, 3 August 2007 19:11 (eighteen years ago)
ha nitsuh dude im glad you didnt know that til today either!!
― and what, Friday, 3 August 2007 19:13 (eighteen years ago)
She doesn't seem to make much of it -- I feel like I've seen several interviews with her, and none of them ever mentioned it.
― nabisco, Friday, 3 August 2007 19:16 (eighteen years ago)
haha this show is great
jergins otm
― deej, Friday, 3 August 2007 19:20 (eighteen years ago)
Ooh, another thing I find funny about this show -- the way that over the seasons they kept rotating what restaurant/bar set people would meet in! First it was the restaurant owned by that guy Joan claimed she slept with when she didn't, then that club for a while, then the place Lynn worked where they always had lunch, and then the place Joan bought. One of few instances where constant show-retooling actually creates an accurate picture of life.
Can we talk about the episode with Lynn's sister?
― nabisco, Friday, 3 August 2007 19:20 (eighteen years ago)
You scored as a Mya Woohu!! Youre a Mya!! You believe that happiness doesnt have to come at a cost. You always try your hardest at everything you do and you would even risk your life to make your family happy. You go girl!!
― deej, Friday, 3 August 2007 19:23 (eighteen years ago)
so this show is like executive produced by kelsey grammar, right? that always surprised me
― deej, Friday, 3 August 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)
I believe he is also executive producer of The Game?

Don't, it's awful.
― nabisco, Friday, 3 August 2007 19:27 (eighteen years ago)
I know, Toni leaving completely ruined this show! why couldn't they have bumped Lynn? Tracee Ellis Ross is my favorite, though.
― horseshoe, Monday, 6 August 2007 08:02 (eighteen years ago)
Lynn and Joan are the only hot babes on the show

Joan Clayton: My mother always said, "When love runs out on you, God sends you love's equivalent... or better."Toni Childs: I thought she said, "When you run out of love's lubricant, use butter."

Haven't watched this in a while, though I was weirded out by Tracee Ellis Ross basically playing Joan in Daddy's Little Girls.
― nabisco, Wednesday, 22 October 2008 18:55 (seventeen years ago)
(Plus Gabrielle Union's secretary was basically Maya, situation-wise.)
