Could you beat up your dad?

I think by now I could probably take mine. Not that I'm getting stronger or anything, but I think by now, heading into his 60's this year, he's begun to get weaker. It would have to be a long fight though, because he's still pretty solid, but I believe I could whoop him in the endurance department. So I'd have to make sure to do lots of blocking and stutter step for the first 5 rounds before going in for the kill, and finally becoming a man.

I doubt it. not that my dad's super-tough or anything, but I'm one of those dudes who's somehow made it through his entire life without being in a real fight, and I'd rather not start with someone who's 6'5".

bernard snowy, Saturday, 4 August 2007 20:05 (eighteen years ago)

i dont think so. my dad has arthritis, but hes a head taller than me, bulky, and trained in hand-to-hand combat.

my dad could beat up your dads

Gukbe, Saturday, 4 August 2007 20:34 (eighteen years ago)

No chance. My ex-marine 210 pound still cuts, hauls and splits wood at 68 years old. Plus, he's meaner than I am.

He also looks like a mean Santa Claus and carries a loaded 45 at all times, which raises the intimidation factor.

John Justen, Saturday, 4 August 2007 21:35 (eighteen years ago)

"210 pound dad"

It was a long day at work.

John Justen, Saturday, 4 August 2007 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

most definitely. scrawny motherfucker.

marmotwolof, Saturday, 4 August 2007 21:37 (eighteen years ago)

We had a fight last year and he kicked the shit out of me, so not until his apnea weakens him sufficiently more.

Dom Passantino, Saturday, 4 August 2007 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

No chance here either. My dad is a seriously tough guy. He used to play club rugby (and was selected for the Jamaican national time, but never played) at number 8 (and has his nose broken three times). He's a couple of inches taller than me, 30lbs heavier, and has just fathered a child at 59, so he's not short of physical fitness. I've seen him in some pretty serious fights. That sucked on a personal level, but at least I know I need another ten years before I can take that mother fucker.

caek, Saturday, 4 August 2007 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

no

kenan, Saturday, 4 August 2007 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

Most of my friends still refer to my dad as "scary".

Lately, he's been complaining because he's 10 pounds heavier than he was in the marine corps for the first time in his life, which means he's maintained his weight and muscle mass since 1956.

xpost: yeah, I saw my dad kick the crap out of a few people in my early years (while he was moonlighting as a bouncer), so I never really had a lot of motivation to test my mettle against him in my teen years. Tried once, but he just pinned my arms to my sides and calmly talked me out of it.

John Justen, Saturday, 4 August 2007 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

my dad could at the very least throw his weight into a punch. Not that he's fat, but he's just... BIG.

kenan, Saturday, 4 August 2007 21:47 (eighteen years ago)

Totally. He's only in his early forties and about twice my size, but I know where his weak spots are. Plus, if it came to blows, I would have Righteousness on my side.

Okay, so, really? No.

en i see kay, Saturday, 4 August 2007 21:56 (eighteen years ago)

i can verify the scary nature of mr. justen's dad

id been going to the music store he runs for like 6 or so years before i mustered the courage to say more than four words to him at once

the sir weeze, Saturday, 4 August 2007 22:03 (eighteen years ago)

i could beat up my dad (60something, both hips replaced, the athleticism of a drunken walrus), but he'd laugh the whole time, just to piss me off

the sir weeze, Saturday, 4 August 2007 22:07 (eighteen years ago)

John's Dad is completely scary, it's true. I never knew what to say to him, either.

I could beat my mother up, but I suppose that's hardly impressive since she's 60-something. But hey, I'm a girrrrrl... I'm going to have to wait another 20 years before it's going to be possible for me to beat my Dad up.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 4 August 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

My dad tells a hilarious story about a time he went to the M4mb0 Inn in Brixton with Tr3v0r Rhys J0n3s (Dian4's bodyguard in the car) and he saw J0n3s beat the shit out of a massive bouncer, then they both had to run off. The glee in my dad's eyes when he tells this story is one of the reasons I know that he could pound the tar out of me very easily.

My brother is the same. He's two more inches bigger than my dad, also played rugby, and he used to be a bouncer. I used to beat the shit out of him until I was about 11 and he was 9, and he took me over in size. Last time I picked a fight with him I ended up with a black eye and a damaged shoulder. Good times.

I am younger/faster/healthier and prob stronger but my dad was in the israeli army and he might know some technique to pin me down and tear out my eyes. but he's had problems w/ his knee, so maybe I would go for the knees before he'd have a chance. I honestly don't know, it's an interesting thought experiment.

iatee, Sunday, 8 May 2011 15:57 (fourteen years ago)

the mortgage is the family home, though the money secured on the property was more of a personal loan to himself while he held the property in trust for my brothers and i after our mother died.

Xp lol na i cleared my tab at christmas man

del griffith, Sunday, 8 May 2011 20:48 (fourteen years ago)

My father played college football and was an Army Ranger during Vietnam, but I would kick the shit out of him because he's pretty old.

Thraft of Cleveland (Bill Magill), Monday, 9 May 2011 16:06 (fourteen years ago)

cool. War is over.

Mark G, Monday, 9 May 2011 16:11 (fourteen years ago)

He's dead now, but up to a pretty advanced age he was one tough mofo, physically. All that farm work when he was a kid.

Aimless, Monday, 9 May 2011 18:24 (fourteen years ago)

He's 82 and currently on his fourth course of chemo, so...maybe. Barely.

Stomp! in the name of love (WmC), Monday, 9 May 2011 18:27 (fourteen years ago)

he'd knock me into tomorrow i must admit. he's taller and a lot heavier, even at 64 i reckon he'd give me a hiding i'd not forget in a hurry. no doubt about it, my dad would administer a rollicking i'd not easily dismiss.

LocalGarda, Monday, 9 May 2011 18:28 (fourteen years ago)

Not a chance, he was barred from pubs where he used to live for fighting, once over cards and another while playing snooker, broke his cue on someone who kept nudging him while taking his shot.
He's in his late 60's now, but he's still in decent shape.

not_goodwin, Monday, 9 May 2011 18:36 (fourteen years ago)

easily.

Crooked Lust (thebingo), Monday, 9 May 2011 18:51 (fourteen years ago)

I think I could, though it would be pretty humiliating for us both.

Now, me versus the 1986 version of him, probably not. He was a pretty mean dude back in the day.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 9 May 2011 18:59 (fourteen years ago)

I twice used the word "pretty" in a 33-word post about beating up my dad.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 9 May 2011 19:01 (fourteen years ago)

Right, nominations over, who's dad could beat up who's dad now...
