It was now Mid-August which meant he had been separated from the Watercooler for more than two months. Two months, and all he had to show was three dog-eared emails and two very expensive internet cafe bills.

Damn, stupid line break. That is going to irritate me.
Though it is officially summer now, I got the Byrds records out last night.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 6 August 2007 10:38 (eighteen years ago)
Has everyone just gone off to the mailing list? (honestly, you guys talk so much at the weekend I'm not sure I can participate.) Is everyone working? Or just out in the sun? Lucky you.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 6 August 2007 10:44 (eighteen years ago)
It's not 'Waldo Jeffries'?
― G00blar, Monday, 6 August 2007 10:45 (eighteen years ago)
Well, OK, Cale has quite a strong Welsh accent, but every web lyrics thing I checked had Jeffers.
Also... HOW DO I SHOT CAMPING?!??! Where do I get an tent?
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 6 August 2007 10:49 (eighteen years ago)
Hello there.
When I last bought a tent, I got it from a YHA shop near Covent Garden.
― Forest Pines Mk2, Monday, 6 August 2007 10:54 (eighteen years ago)
We got ours from Halfords.
― Mark G, Monday, 6 August 2007 10:55 (eighteen years ago)
I got mine from Millets I think, but it leaks now. That might be because I packed it up while it was still wet and then left it in a cupboard for 5 years though.
― Colonel Poo, Monday, 6 August 2007 10:56 (eighteen years ago)
What is YHA? Young Hebrew Association?
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 6 August 2007 11:00 (eighteen years ago)
Oh, and here is your DDB for the day. Why do these images always look darker on a PC than they do on a Mac? Do I have some funny settings implemented to save eyestrain or money?
This is Phil, and he's supposed to be blond, but he doesn't look very blond on this monitor:

I love the way you draw hair. Those background effects are cool too. How do you do that, or is it a Closely Guarded Artistic Secret?
boss returned to work today after three weeks -- seems more like three months...
― Grandpont Genie, Monday, 6 August 2007 11:06 (eighteen years ago)
Hello! Working, here. Holiday next week yay!
Re DDB: His hair looks fairly blond (blondly fair?) to me I think.
― anatol_merklich, Monday, 6 August 2007 11:07 (eighteen years ago)
oh and YHA = Youth Hostel Assocation
― Grandpont Genie, Monday, 6 August 2007 11:10 (eighteen years ago)
Closely guarded secret ha ha ha... it's all done with gradients in photoshop. You can set them to form a halo pattern - and then if you set the transparency right, you can overwrite them to get interesting interference. It's a very simple moire pattern. They (TEY) do they same thing with their light show. I've spent ages trying to recreate that amazing light show in filters. (Using things like Hard Light, Linear Burn/Dodge, Exclusion filters.)
I think my monitor is just too dark. I've never adjusted it.
Hair is my favourite thing to draw. Hair and jawlines. Noses are most difficult. Phil has a slightly crooked looking nose, like he broke it when he was a kid, and it's really hard to draw.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 6 August 2007 11:12 (eighteen years ago)
OK! My friend D has found a B&B right by the venue! I think we're going to split a twin room. That would be AWESOME.

"the resemblance in shape of breasts to bells led to the adoption of Agatha as the patron saint of bell founders; and their resemblance to round loaves apparently accounts for the custom observed... of blessing bread in church on her feast day".

― nathalie, Monday, 6 August 2007 11:56 (eighteen years ago)
You can also access the google group page. Which can be the best way to read everything. (anyone who doesn't want emails can disable them and simply read on group page at their leisure.)

By the way, I'm off down to the big London next weekend. My friend W is having a birthday bash on Saturday, and the original invite did say to bring any nice people along that I knew...
― Forest Pines Mk2, Monday, 6 August 2007 12:16 (eighteen years ago)
Ah, we're off to Norfolk next weekend! (I think... haven't heard from Ed as he's off the radar in Wales, obv.)
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 6 August 2007 12:19 (eighteen years ago)
When is ed back?
― Herman G. Neuname, Monday, 6 August 2007 12:41 (eighteen years ago)
Later this week.
Argh, B&Bs all booked up near the festival site. I don't WANT to have to camp. D thinks we could commute, train and N133, but that means you have to leave so EARLY... (no pun intended for once). I should check the train times.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 6 August 2007 12:56 (eighteen years ago)
Last train is at 10:52, next one not until 5:55. That's not really doable. Especially as TEY are playing LAST.
:-(
And damn, I've just lost MySpace so I can't get back to her.
― Masonic Boom, Monday, 6 August 2007 13:01 (eighteen years ago)
I am slowly facing THE HORROR, THE ABSOLUTE HORROR that I am going to end up camping. :-(

― Herman G. Neuname, Monday, 6 August 2007 13:29 (eighteen years ago)
I have been listening to Do It Clean a bit lately cos it was on my Ipod. But I'm not in the last.fm group cos I don't use it and don't actually know what it's for!
Just got back from pub which is unusual for Monday but tis my birthday, turned 21 today!
― Colonel Poo, Monday, 6 August 2007 13:31 (eighteen years ago)
Well, you should all be ashamed of yourselves.
(OK, they should hurry up and finish their next album so you have something new to listen to, but still.)

― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 09:22 (eighteen years ago)
Urg, coming off the plane straight to work is hard and no sloping off early today unfortunately. Probably shan't be out tonight as I am knackered. Trying to get to Sande tomorrow but I have to drive to grimsby so it depends when I get back.
― Ed, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 10:22 (eighteen years ago)
I may drive by Sheffield and collect my accordion.
― Ed, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 10:23 (eighteen years ago)
Ed, I was going to send Ned his CD, unless you did already!
― Mark G, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 10:24 (eighteen years ago)

Accordion? What accordion? I'm worried.
Never go to work straight off the plane, have you learned nothing?

Me? Went to see Bearsuit on thursday, who had a dancing bear (okay, not a real one, but... Party Bear!). Then saw Dan Deacon on saturday, who was AWESOME, even if the venue is rubbish and 'twas very sparsely populated. He's, um, IDM, if IDM stood for 'Idiotic Dance Music' - lots of frenetic bleepy songs about animals and skulls and mountains and stuff. His album is called 'Spiderman of the Rings'. He is great.
Although I'm still jealous of Kate's amazing-sounding weekend.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 12:28 (eighteen years ago)
Kate's weekend does sound like the best one.
Mine: farmer's market, dinner and dancing with Dan, Sunday chill time in Hackney, then capping off everything with the dance I had with Carlos and Tessa at Carnival.
― suzy, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 12:56 (eighteen years ago)
Ha ha ha ha ha, one of the Oirish DDBs who offered to be my boyfriend to get at my posh B&B just friended me on MySpace. :-)
I'm suddenly realising... hang on, I didn't even *try* to get laid at that festival, I was having too good a time! Maybe I should have put in more of an effort. Dammit. Our friend S got drunk and got off with a DDB half her age. Oh well. Both D and I had the excuse "but I've got a room mate!" to keep DDBs out of the hotel.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 13:03 (eighteen years ago)
Argh, no printing yet. I'm starting to get TEH PH34R!!!!
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)
Hi everybody!
New flat is wondrous, too good to be true, strange. We are still not fully unpacked, doing a little at a time, surrounded by boxes in various states. Very much feel like we're housesitting for a wealthy relative and will have to go back to our crappy apartment at the end of the week. It's gonna take a while to get used to it--in the meantime, the strangeness makes me sort of averse to the unpacking decisions (what goes where, etc), 'cause it doesn't feel like ours. But, you know: :DDDDDDDDDD
― G00blar, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 13:35 (eighteen years ago)
Halp me, watercoolers. My bass player is getting married this weekend, and I've got a present for him, but need to get either an extra joint present or a present solely for his missus. I have no ideas at all.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 13:46 (eighteen years ago)
Uuuhhh... what kind of things is his missus into?
Or do they (gulp) have a wedding registry anywhere?
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 13:47 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, they do have a registry, but it is all BORING. She likes dogs and writing and rabbits and bad films and Jonathan Richman and none of these things really suggest a good present.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 13:51 (eighteen years ago)
But that is what registries are for. For people you don't know really well who like all boring stuff when you don't know what to get them. If you've got a cool, interesting present for your bassist, that's good enough. Get them something useful from the list as well.
Sorry, the little flute bit in Je Suis Animal just came on and I've got to bounce around the room.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 13:56 (eighteen years ago)
must get working on the cookies, I like sound of bouncy flute
― Ed, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 13:57 (eighteen years ago)
also I have the ladbroke grove comp as well now, but haven't had a chance to listen.
― Ed, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 14:03 (eighteen years ago)
Cookie that baby up!
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 14:04 (eighteen years ago)
Busy busy busy :( Too much work to keep up with ILX lately...
Babs (Mrs Poo) started temping at some kind of celebrity agency this week, which is v good news cos we were rapidly approaching bankruptcy (not getting paid til the bastard 31st this month isn't helping) so at least something is going well this week!
I'm having trouble keeping up with all these cookies with my already overloaded mp3 playlist, but I've got Sadistic Mika Band's 1st album playing at the moment, like it so far!
I'll second that Ladbroke Grove comp cookie request, I liked the look of that :)
― Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 14:11 (eighteen years ago)
But that is what registries are for. For people you don't know really well who like all boring stuff when you don't know what to get them.
But the problem is I do know her well. I know exactly what she's like and what she likes, but none of it really comes together. I think the problem is that she has pretty much everything that she wants, so there are no gaps to fill in with something cool and unexpected.
― emil.y, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 14:19 (eighteen years ago)
Weddings are not about giving something cool and unexpected! That's what birthdays, anniversaries, that sort of thing is about. Weddings are where you are supposed to give them something boring to set up their new house together. (Yes, even if they've been living together for ages.)
G00bs, when's your housewarming party? Cowboy Jim was telling me how swish the flat is. And how he is going to murder you and K in yr beds to get it from you.
And hurrah for Mrs. Poo getting a job. You jsut have to stop drinking the pair of you into bankrupcy! ;-)
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 14:27 (eighteen years ago)
Heh more like she has to stop smoking us into bankruptcy! But being at work will help her cut down on that :P
― Colonel Poo, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 14:29 (eighteen years ago)
Just survive on free work tea and biscuits like I do. Ha ha.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 14:47 (eighteen years ago)
At what time should I call the printer and ask them where the hell my stuff is? It's now 4pm, and I'm getting worried.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 14:52 (eighteen years ago)
OK, that's not a good sign. He had to take my name and number and said someone will call me back. They haven't done it, it's not going to turn up, ARRRGGGHHHH. :-(
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 15:21 (eighteen years ago)
I cannot beleive this.
Despite asking on the phone, and then specifying AGAIN on the email when I placed the order, and AGAIN on the artwork approval that I needed them on Wednesday - here it is, Wednesday at 4.30 and no posters.
I'm glad I called or else I'd have been waiting here all night. FFS...
That's over £60 down the drain. The only thing I can hope is to take addresses tonight or maybe to sell them online. I don't know what else to do.
The fucking universe hates me.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 15:36 (eighteen years ago)
You should ask for your money back, they haven't fulfilled their end of the bargain (this may spur them into doing something).
― Ed, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 16:08 (eighteen years ago)
I'm too stressed out to fight on this. I have printed out an A3 colour copy at work (though the cyan registration seems to be a bit fucked on it) and we're going to try to take money and addresses and mail them out. Or just do them mail order. However, they're now going to have to be £5 as opposed to £2 to cover the extra cost. :-(
But looking at the A3 printout, my god, it has come out nice, if I may say so myself.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)
bah, scunners.
drop by on your way through if you want to pick up pedal or I'll bring it to Sande tomorrow.
― Ed, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 16:32 (eighteen years ago)
Sorry, I don't have time to drop by tonight, I have to get there by 7 to do the door! But please bring it to Sande.
― Masonic Boom, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 16:32 (eighteen years ago)
That sux, K8!
Nah, housewarming is gonna have to be put off 'til after wedding, alas. We are too too busy right now. It sucks 'cause this place was MADE for a party.

hi kids! writing from lake maggiore, italy, where i am attending my first-ever big corporate offsite indoctrination thing. i can't decide if i am nervous or (as i have been in the past with similar events) scornfully dismissive and interested only in corporate swag and when there's time to relax by the pool (even though it's totally overcast here).
and most importantly, whether those tales about drunken hookups with people you meet at conferences are actually true. i spotted a cute austrian woman last night (nudge nudge wink wink say no more).
― mitya, Thursday, 30 August 2007 06:47 (eighteen years ago)
I can do September 6th! I just can't do the 7th, that day is sacred to the JAMC.
Ed, did he get in touch? I see no email from you or Lisa. :-(
Oh my lord, Mitya, corporate hookups, you go, boy. It's all about the action by the pool. Get cool in the pool, then hott in the dancing spot.
Oh my god, I'm so wrecked. I was working until 1am last night - the club was supposed to end at midnight, but of course it ran over, and then there's counting out and being the annoyingly good at maths person, I had to do the accounting. And somehow ended up with £10 more than we were meant to have. OK, that's good. I don't mind having more money that we are supposed.
I forgot how much fun it is to do the door. You get to say hello to everyone as they come in, and oh the power, letting your mates in for cheap. Only one minor bit of hassle the whole night - this gang of teenage Spanish girls who snuck in - and then had the audacity to ask me for a stamp so they could get back in after going out for a cigarette. I was just "fuck off!" and told them if they wanted to get back in they had to pay as they clearly hadn't paid in the first place. They were all getting in my face and the one girl was going "you crazy! you crazy!" Dude, excuse me? You are stupid enough to walk up to the door person and announce you haven't paid to get in, then demand a stamp, and you're calling *me* crazy? I had the bouncer throw them out.
I love controlling the stamp. Or rather, the pen as the stamp had run out of ink. I felt like a farmer, wrassling down pop stars and trying to stamp their hands. Dudes, it's for your own good, I know you'll be out for a cigarette and then trying to get back in. CARRUTHERS, I SEE YOU SNEAKING IN THERE, COME BACK HERE, yes, I know you're on the list, but you need my brand, too. Heh. Yes, I get to let crushes in for free, it's great. I didn't abuse my power, I only let 3 crushes in for free. And Dean has forgiven me for the teapot head drawing, in fact, he decided he loved it.
Is it time for a new 'Cooler yet? I've got a good one.
