I know this is strictyl an ILM question, but due to the London centric nature of the posting community on ILe I thought I'd post it here.
Does anybody know of this band? I got sent a promo of their album (out in April) and I listened to it all night yesterday evening. I can't decide if it's pure genius or ropey and half formed.
Basically folk/country tinged with eastern european influences, the blackest of lyrics, though occasionally deliberately gauche/faux naive in an endearing rather than embarrassing way, and a singer whose deep choclaty voice makes me thing of Ian Dury(obviously a good thing). All in all, makes me think of Ian Dury, the Fatima Mansions, Will Oldham and Bill Callahan, with a hint of Billy Bragg circa Between The Wars.
It doesn't always work, and half the songs are a bit dull or long. But when it does (Kinder Tot, Something like Rain, Mouth Shut) its stunning and quite unlike anything I've heard recently.
Anybody know who these people are? Anybody seen them live?

two weeks pass...
I've seen them live a few times and they are excellent. They're
playing tonight (16th April) in the 12 Bar on Denmark St and album
release gig is 2nd May at the Spitz. I can't make it tonight but I'm
going on the 2nd.

i are thinking that erstwhile ILEer Chris T-T is in them, and that
there are about 20 of them. just HOW they think they're all going to
fit onto the tiny tiny stage at the 12-bar is beyond me, and i'd turn
up to see them try except boyfwiend is ill and i must look after him.
please do report back though as i'd be interested to hear what
they're like!

Couldn't go, but will be there on 2nd.
As Katie said, Chris TT is in band. Some of the others used to be in
Leonard (who were also good), including Tim the singer and Rup,
basist.
