RIP buddy, I'm pouring a 40 for you and your awesomeness...just your binomial nomenclature alone makes me smile.

That's really sad. Why was nothing done to preserve this species?

humansuit, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 16:44 (eighteen years ago)

because it's China.

elmo argonaut, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah but there was no international agreement to just preserve a few in aquariums?

humansuit, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 16:47 (eighteen years ago)

This is making me feel like crying. Fuck a civilization.

Jon Lewis, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

There's too much money to be made in China to worry about them destroying a few species here and there

Tom D., Wednesday, 8 August 2007 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

Flagmaker?

Casuistry, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

mark s, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

mark s, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

Duh, you're right. My bad.

Still, Flagbearer?

Casuistry, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 17:01 (eighteen years ago)

There were efforts to preserve this species... why is everyone saying "they didn't try because they were China?" That's lame, ilx bros. You're ON the internet-- look it up first!

Still a fucking pity though... look at those guys. They are brill.

"thanks for all the fish"

Madchen, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 17:16 (eighteen years ago)

"vexillifex" = authors of "Rumpshaker"

I did. But I still wonder why (if the Chinese have been trying to save them since 1975) all conservation attempts seemed to have failed? Is it because they couldn't breed in captivity? While not wishing to take the easy route of blaming the Chinese for everything I think they do have to take some blame here, after all it's their river!

one month passes...

Maybe we should have a deadpool for the next species?
I call the Western Lowland Gorilla.

If you've been reading Mark Trail lately you'd think the mallard duck was the next to go.
