new grrrr!

mark s, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmm, I hope they're paying you bloody good interest on your money for whatever amount of time they hold it without supplying the goods.

toraneko, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

well of course part of the problem is i am taking advantage of a special offer which ends [blah blah] PLUS they actually warned me there would be delays

mark s, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Send them blue cheese in the mail as revenge.

Nicole, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Terms and conditions, warnings etc are irrelevant. You are lending them money and as far as I am aware, mark, you are not A BANK, so you'd probably prefer not to do so. Whilst I don't know the exact details, I would guess that this could go on for a while - a month's delay, followed by another etc etc Meanwhile they have yours and everybody else's money. As long as they have that the delivery of your computer is not that important to them.

First get your money back - the right phone call will make them deposit the money back into your account via electronic transfer. (I am world champ at this kind of call, and I wish I could make it for you!)

Then decide what to do, based on how urgently you need the iMac vs how much more you're prepared to pay to get one NOW!

Dr. C, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't see that as revenge. I love blue cheese. The more off it is, the better it gets!!!

Pete, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mark, I had to wait eight weeks for my iBOOK. Grrrrr is all I could say.

helenfordsdale, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what i'm trying to find out though is if the delay is at MACINTOSH (which is what my supplier is saying), in which case actually it makes little difference who i move to next, the same problem occurs

so far i cannot got hold of them: they didn't just go bust did they?

(i am not a *major* bank it is true)

mark s, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You probably want to live in a house of cheese.

Nicole, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

if i withdraw my money it is (very nearly) the same to me emotionally as saying OK i won't buy a new computer then

mark s, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Who wouldn't want to live in a house of cheese. Lovely Mozerella mattresses, grated cheddar on the floor and a table made out of Edam. I think it is the ultimate goal of Civilization - which is why I think Sid Meier hasn't quite got it right yet.

Pete, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mark is it the 700MHZ with CDR drive? Someone told me there's 5 weeks deliv on this and the delay is at the Factory. Apparently it's less if you don't have the CD-writer. Can't vouch for this 100%

Why can't they take a deposit to keep your place in the queue, rather than the whole lot? Get them to give you at least 75% back.

Dr. C, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

(!)must(!)have(!)CD-writer(!)

if the money is with them i can't spend it in between on something stupid, dr c: yes i realise i miss out on 0.034 pence interest

(it's the 600mhz but same diff: that's the info i wanted to hear tho — or didn't want to hear, but you know what i mean)

mark s, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

*dr c: yes i realise i miss out on 0.034 pence interest*

Or the chance that they'll clear off with yr. money altogether. Ok, not likely, but... it's how much.. best part of a grand? For a months wait that's a fiver in interest if you stuck it in an ISA. How long have you waited already? 8 weeks and it's a tenner. Are they going to deduct that?

What would be the response if you called up a computer distributer and said here's my address send me £10 please?

Dr. C, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ok dr c it is macwarehouse, so yes i do think it a bit unlikely they will merely hoof it

haha i am paying them a tenner then to stop me spending the lot on crisps and pop!

mark s, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Anyway can you "stick it an ISA" for two months only? The very thought of calling my Financial Adviser fills me with disgust and terror: I would rather give out a fiver at random than spend an hour with him heh. So you see it's complicated.

mark s, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think "sticking it in an ISA" for 2 months would be a very bad plan and also a hassle. Dr C has clearly learned nothing from his IFA chum.

N., Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

*Anyway can you "stick it an ISA" for two months only?*

yes, of course. Anyway that's irrelevant - if you had YOUR money and not them bastids that's what it would earn in interest in any number of places. Maybe in some of them it would have to be on top of 10K or so, but they don't know what you've got where.

I don't mean to bang on about this - it's just that I'm a tight bastard (not wiv friends and family, I hope!) espec. when dealing with *companies*, who normally give shit service except in the efficiency with which they grab and keep hold of yr cash.

Dr. C, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why N? He's not a *chum* you can be sure!

Dr. C, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Anyway the whole point is not whether you wd REALLY put it in an ISA for a month or so. The point is that's what THEY'RE doing and earning interest on YOUR money. So why can't they deduct that off the price you pay. Plus a little for the inconvenience of waiting.

Dr. C, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

well so far if they had delivered today it would be a few days AHEAD of the wait they warned about in the catalogue (two-three weeks): so I really think I have no leg to stand on till the end of next week re any money back. I didn't contract for next-day service. If it looks like stretching out very long I shall start hunting elsewhere yes.

mark s, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hope it turns up soon. I realise I'm outed as a boring capitalist money-head now, but over the last two years I've had my fill of negotiating with shitehawk companies about delivery of boilers, floors, windows etc in my 'doing up a house' project. You have to be a real bastard to get even mediocre service and get them to keep promises.

Dr. C, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Supply constraints re iMacs and a couple of other Macintosh models was a recurring problem for the company c. 1999-2000. The problem often used to feature in analyses of Apple's quarterly results. Guess they still haven't cracked the supply-demand thing during/post the Xmas rush

(sorry, that was a k-dull snippet, but you sounded like you really wanted to know)

Jeff W, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i would love someone to stick something in me for 2 months.

Queen G, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
