Anyway, basically he asked Aborigines in Australia whether they "still threw spears at each other" the man is a social menace.

No Robin. They're desolate sandbanks off Foulness, exposed at low tide and inhabited only by birds (also used as firing ranges by the M.O.D. I think).

I was just testing David on Maplin Sands: Maplins *was* the name of Perry and Croft's Butlinsalike, wasn't it? Slightly caught offguard by his use of the word "fuck" because that is so unlike him (though I agree with what he intended to say). I'm not so polite myself, I'm a fucking maniac.

Looks like you're right after all Robin. I was never a fan of the series but the holiday camp was a godforsaken place wasn't it? In which case the choice of name was probably an allusion to a ridiculously windswept, desolate seaside location (in SE English terms).

During the tour, the Duke of Edinburgh chatted to Matthew Trewhella, a developer advocate who promotes his organisation's products to companies.
He asked the Google worker, who was dressed casually in a hooded top, chinos and trainers: "Just come back from jogging?"

This picture is on the cover of the NYTimes today. First reaction: is it just me, or does Philip look like he's giddily holding back one of his trademark zingers?
http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2009/04/02/nyregion/02ipod_650.jpg
(Second reaction: googling to delight in some of Philip's past zingers, and learning that his score this time was to make a joke to Obama about all the G20 heads of state looking the same.)

Philip looks like he's already thought of what offensive thing he's gonna say to Obama in his mind and is just trying to wait a a few extra seconds before letting rip
