Hoo boy, this don't look too good.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 08:46 (eighteen years ago)

Aye, saw that trailer for it before Hot Fuzz, not holding out much hope.

ailsa, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 08:53 (eighteen years ago)

I thought Dom Passantino would be declaring his intention to run the London Marathon in this thread.

King Boy Pato, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 09:07 (eighteen years ago)

did the last schwimmer/pegg collab even make it into cinemas?

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 09:08 (eighteen years ago)

Pretty sure it did, only limited though. We toyed with the idea of going to see it, then decided it would probably be shit.

ailsa, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 09:11 (eighteen years ago)

Though I can't remember if we got as far as looking to see if it was actually on in the cinema, that's how I'm not sure what sort of release it got.

ailsa, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 09:12 (eighteen years ago)

December 1st last year, apparently. And it took less than 150k opening week

xxp

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 09:13 (eighteen years ago)

I saw The Big Nowhere. It was poor. It was particularly scuppered by being set in the US whilst clearly filmed in the Isle Of Mann with a completely British cast on the whole doing poor US accents except for Davis Schwimmer. The fault was not so much the acting as the script which, whilst quite clever for a black comedy, laid its far fetched coincidences so heavy that the whole conceit imploded.

Oh, and David Schwimmer's character motivation was poor x 1,000,000. Pegg's US accent in particular was a bit patchy.

Pete, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 12:28 (eighteen years ago)

why did they think, at any point, that that would work??

blueski, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 12:30 (eighteen years ago)

why is schwimmer making faux-american films on the isle of man? someone needs to sack his agent.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 12:32 (eighteen years ago)

i think his agent is doing pretty well in the circs

mark s, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 13:36 (eighteen years ago)

for shame, we saw the big nothing in the cinema. total fucking waste of 89 or so minutes of our lives, although that blonde lass who's in starter for 10 is admittedly cute.

some of these people's careers were not adversely affected by starring in this movie.

blueski, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 13:39 (eighteen years ago)

<i>Big Nothing</i> was pretty fucking appalling. I'm pleased to note that I've blanked pretty much all of it from my memory, all I can recall is a sense of futility only equalled by watching episodes of Hyperdrive.

Matt, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 14:00 (eighteen years ago)

[] obv, sheesh.

King Boy Pato, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)

pisces, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

seven months pass...

I just saw this... There were some nice moments, but basically it had every possible cliche of the "underdog guy wins back his ex-girlfriend/wife from her smug new boyfriend" story. I mean, the new guy tripping the main character in the marathon and then blaming it on him was just too much, plus the scene where he runs to finishing line because he sees his ex and son there was totally cringeworthy. Has there ever been a movie where the new boy/girlfriend of the protagonist's ex is actually a nice, decent human being?

Lois Lane's husband in Superman Returns maybe

blueski, Sunday, 23 March 2008 22:19 (seventeen years ago)

Hank Azaria was great in this! But yeah it was all a bit Love, Actually otherwise.

nickalicious, Sunday, 23 March 2008 22:26 (seventeen years ago)

Well yeah, I don't blame him for his role being a walking cliche, he handled the job of being an ultra-smug American suit quite well.

Tuomas, Sunday, 23 March 2008 22:28 (seventeen years ago)

i liked this? it was a cute trifle.

get bent, Monday, 24 March 2008 03:50 (seventeen years ago)

HEY GUYS DID I MENTION I INTERVIEWED DAVID SCHWIMMER AND HE WAS A MENSCH AND THIS WAS THE MOVIE I INTERVIEWED HIM ABOUT.

s1ocki, Monday, 24 March 2008 05:41 (seventeen years ago)

I watched this film on a transatlantic flight and it just about helped to pass the time. If I didn't have an increasingly obtuse loyalty to Pegg though I wouldn't have got past the first 15 minutes or so.

krakow, Monday, 24 March 2008 08:50 (seventeen years ago)

s1ocki are you by any chance in hawaii this week

gr8080, Monday, 24 March 2008 08:57 (seventeen years ago)

ohhhhhh this movie was shit.

Dan I., Monday, 24 March 2008 09:10 (seventeen years ago)

It was really awful.

basically it had every possible cliche of the "underdog guy wins back his ex-girlfriend/wife from her smug new boyfriend" story.

^^^ this

Alba, Monday, 24 March 2008 11:35 (seventeen years ago)

It was a huge success at the box office, though, so maybe Schwimmer doesn't need to sack his agent after all.
