is there an easy and obvious way to work this out that doesn't involve counting off on a calendar? (i am feeling very unbrainy today)

http://www.timeanddate.com/date/dateadd.html
Calculation results
From date: Tuesday, August 21, 2007
Added 1001 days
Resulting date: Tuesday, May 18, 2010

(just fill in the 1001 days, you don't have to calculate how many years/months that is)
Use the Julian Day, add 1001, then convert back to calendar day.

I always use Excel. You can use a formula to add days to a date.
Stick 14/08/2007 in cell A1 then in B1 stick =A1+1001 and hit enter, and it'll tell you 11/05/2010.
