am I right in thinking it's a musical Anthony? If so then I cannot
agree with your statement, at all. anyway, it's never going to be as
good as bring it on!

"Umbrellas" was sweet for its time period, and Truffaut was a genius.
Still, "Singing in the Rain" _does count as an American masterpiece.

my favorite moment is when Catherine Deneuve pouts at her mother that she's getting heavy and her mother says (sings) "but all pregnant women are beautiful" and Catherine Deneuve looks in the mirror, smiles, and says "yes, that's true"

Right, what's the relaitonship between Guy and Madeleine? I thought they were meant to be brother and sister in the first two parts? Aren't they living together?

"Umbrellas" was sweet for its time period, and Truffaut was a genius. Ummm, but Truffaut did not do this film, did he? I thought it was [forget's name]. Yeah, him.

Uhm, I think Madeleine was looking after Guy's mother. If they were brother and sister, that would be very icky.
Best joke: when one of the mechanics expresses his dislike of opera, because of all the singing.
I saw The Young Girls of Rochefort (another Demy/Legrand film) a few days ago, coincidentally, and it's pretty fun. It's not all singing, all the time like Umbrellas, though, and overall, not as good. But whenever Catherine and sis Françoise break into that incredibly cheesy song that starts, "We're a pair of twins!" and do their fake trumpet playing, you can't help but smile. ***SPOILER*** I'm not sure why they threw in that subplot about the murder, and the movie is so cheery that nobody seems to be disturbed by it. It makes the film seem that much more bizarre.
Another thing about these movies - their characters have the COOLEST NAMES. Genevieve, Madeleine, Delphine, Solange for the girls, Etienne, Boubou, Maxence for the guys. Screw this "Dylan" and "Caitlin" nonsense. FRENCH MOVIES HAVE THE COOLEST NAMES.

There's also a bit were one of them sings "That only happens in movies". Postmodernity 9 years too early!
