As in tiling grout Anthony? It is clearly classic as without it all the tiles would fall off the wall and smash.

Emma, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why me?

Tom, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Harry Grout rules!

Andrew L, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Grouty!

here, Fletch, I want you to do something for me..........

I've been watching a lot of older comedy shows lately, and Porridge is the most consistently good. Paramount has just started showing MASH and it's nowhere near as good as I remember, and has an awful laughter track over it.

anyway, yeah, grout, erm regular cleaning prevents mildew.

chris, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you can get coloured grout, apparently. which would look really nice with plain white tiles. maybe.

every few months i give the grout between my bathroom tiles a scrub using a toothbrush and some jif. does this make me a mentalist?

rener, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Grout is my mother's pet name for me and has been since I was wee. My sister is Boo.

So CLASSIC then

misterjones, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I think this must rank as one of the least interesting ideas for a thread ever.

NEXT WEEK - loft insulate - Classic or Dud?

Matt DC, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Emma, you have made the unforgivable mistake of confusing grout with tile adheisive. Now go to you room and play with your hammer and two screwdrivers.

Graham, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Grout is DUD because it begins with the letters 'gr'. I have explained this before. Only exception: green.

N., Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I know grout goes BETWEEN tiles but surely if you don't put it on then moisture gets into the gaps betwixt tiles and into their adhesive and makes them fall off? Otherwise what's the point?

I am seeing my dad later, I will ask him as he has been grouting lately.

Emma, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

groke?

Sterling Clover, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yuck

N., Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

No, grok.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Great? Ground ivy? Grosgrain? Gravity? Gregorian calendar? Gyphon? Gruyere?

Anna, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Groan! Groin! Groovey!

Anna, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually - I did pick those words at random, but together they seem rather suguestive in a bad Austin Powers way. This was not intentional.

Anna, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've just made three (now four) solitary posts to a thread about grout. I find this both worrying and quite amusing. Maybe it's intentional and it will be like Jayne Eyre, but I will just be the mad woman on the grout thread.

I know it's time to leave work now.

Anna, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I just keep thinking of that Simpsons where Homer says "groin grabbingly good".

Ronan, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

It's time to retire GRacefully, Anna.

N., Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My brother has a friend called Paul Grout who's claim to fame is that he once had a wank every hour on the hour for one whole day!

James Ward, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Remind me to never shake Paul Grout's hand.

Dan Perry, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

three years pass...
yeah i clicked on this, what?

N_RQ, Wednesday, 14 September 2005 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

yeah I clicked on this, what?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 14:26 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't click on this, how did I get here?

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 14 September 2005 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

Who are you people? Who are we people?

beanz (beanz), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

Now I know I ILX too much - I saw this thread and immediately thought of mark g.

Crackity (Crackity Jones), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

Me too.

I laboured for years under the mistaken assumption that my family had been named after a brand of cement put between tiles. Until I found out that they'd actually invented it and named it after themselves.

Has that ever been a good idea?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 14:53 (nineteen years ago)

That's the fact of the day right there.

Crackity (Crackity Jones), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 14:54 (nineteen years ago)

Been a quiet day for facts then?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

a mark grout thread, you guys

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

like we need another one!

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

Also, I find this thread has been trackbacked as having Lyndsey Lohan girl-on-girl action!

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 14:59 (nineteen years ago)

You are all dirty-trousered internet pervertalists and should be ashamed of yourselves.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

Osborne: Classic or Dud?

k/l (Ken L), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 19:07 (nineteen years ago)

Mildew on grout
Should really come out
O'er tub you must reach
With a sponge full of bleach
Don't wear your best tie
Or sad tears you will cry
And the grout will be stained
Evermore with your pain.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 21:43 (nineteen years ago)

The other threads
I'll do without
I write my poems
To serve the grout

Without the grout
How would we live?
We'd see the horrid
Adhesive!

Yellowish, put on the wall
in squiggles
Adhesive that shows
Gives nobody giggles

Humble Grout!
We sing your praise!
Our brimming glass
To thee we raise!

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 22:11 (nineteen years ago)

Classic! Classic!
Grout is this!
Like statues wrought
By Phidias!

Who would doubt?
His name is Mud
To ask us whether
Grout is dud!

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 22:14 (nineteen years ago)

They come to drag me
To my cell
But, Grout, know this:
I've served you well

Though others laugh
And call me clown
My tile is fine
And theirs fell down.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 22:17 (nineteen years ago)

I suppose "thus" is better than "this." MODERATOR!!! FIX MY POEM!!!!

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 22:19 (nineteen years ago)

Shout out! To Grout!
You Scurvy Lout!
Shiny tile gets
all the press
Without the grout
Your tile's a mess

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 22:22 (nineteen years ago)

Grout! More tractable
Than Glazing Compound,
Glop of Satan.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 23:43 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I'm impressed.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 15 September 2005 12:19 (nineteen years ago)

Tonight once I
have had some wine,
my praise of Grout
I shall refine

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Thursday, 15 September 2005 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

That's enough now.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 16 September 2005 07:31 (nineteen years ago)

You may be right. It's been a giddy honor occupying the same thread as THE GROUT HEIR, though. You must be besieged at every turn by lovelorn tileworkers.

Beth Parker (Beth Parker), Friday, 16 September 2005 11:38 (nineteen years ago)

"Osborne: Classic or Dud?"

Fucking useless at filling in the gaps and joints between bricks and tiles, that's for sure.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 16 September 2005 20:03 (nineteen years ago)

But great for "urr, you related to Ozzy then?" type funnies.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 16 September 2005 20:18 (nineteen years ago)

You may find it hard to believe Mark, but actually the joy to be derived from such comments and observations is starting to fade just ever so slightly, now that the initial 35 years honeymoon is over.

Unlike comic references to biscuits of course, which I somehow just never seem to tire of.
