just thought it would be interesting to see if anyone here has ever been.

many many years ago, and I remember an incredibly small amount of it, I remember coming back, being a sweaty mess in the back of the car, laughing a lot. Dancing probably too much and having a great time. ahhh fair takes me back.

chris, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Blimey, now that takes me back.
I used to live in the area, went to the opening night when it was in Ossett. 1989-90? I think for most people that went it was their first rave (They were called that then!)
It was at the Height of establishment rave paranoia and there were dozens and dozens of coppers outside. A few months earlier there had been an attempted illegal rave nearby which resulted in hundreds of people being arrested.

I Went to school with most of the resident DJ's, but only ever went to Morely when I could blag my way in. Funniest memory is that they tried to ban tw@ts with white gloves and glowsticks/whistles etc. and they tried to smuggle them in down their pants.
It was amusing to see people being searched for such things and not illegal substances!
Is it still open?

Simeon, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sadly not, despite working down the road in Morley Town Hall for a while in the early '90s. My bro used to hang out there a lot. Met the two blokes who set it up during his stag do. They seemed to have been elbowed out by the venue's owners (or something).

an essential orbit tune must be 'CJ Bolland - The prophet', went to the orbit ages ago when CJ was there + some speakers blew out and there was a mad rush to get the rig running again whilst CJ was mid set! everyone was Fu-ck-ed and when the sound of the prophet trickled through over a staring, gurning, waiting crowd the place went OFF! big style. one of my most memorable clubbing experiences! hopefully sven vath on 4th May!

Used to come upto Ossett from M'bro every month, met some great friends there, went to the last ever nite at The Orbit, Ossett. B4 it shifted to Morley.

Anyone know where i can get some old tapes or even videos of The Orbit, Ossett? I remember always seeing a camcorder in someones hand in there.

And with regard to your tunes N-Joi 'The Anthem' I remember that one and there where some cracking tunes around at that time. My mate was a DJ at the time he remembers them all, I cant, always wrecked.

What is Morley like now wouldnt mind a trip back up there? Lee Middlesbrough

theres so much i want to say , any one went there could go on for ages , the orbit ruled basicly , it was boss , the only other nights that came close were the gallery in leeds and the bridlington do,s phenomanom......our crew were on the stairs every saturday night from 91 untill 93 .... then sporadicly ever since....funny memory when the coppers used to come in and walk around the club, everyone would just cheer or offer them some vicks....

Orbit was wonderful. I spent many a happy euphoric weekend there and at the service stations afterwards, waiting to see if anyone would throw a party!!! Going next weekend when CJ himself is playing. Can't wait. Into more funky hard stuff these days, but gotta return for the Prophet!!! See you all there.

Stumbled onto this site and couldn't believe it - orbit ravers!

Yes indeed, funny/twisted memories of Osset and the coppers walking about the sweaty club!

Best night = Sasha played

followed it to Morley for a while and had some great times there but I think things went a bit dodgy in '92!

still not sure how this site works but it'd be fun to hear your memories from Osset .....

We're not sure how this site works either, Robby.

Used to love this place. As did all whoever went, (asides from the few mates I dragged along now and again who were more into Basics at the time (!)
My earliest memories are of seeing Dream Frequency live with these mad ghosts dancing on stage at the front.

Hardest night - Tanith

Messiest night - many, but one of Joey Beltrams earliest nights has to go down in personal history. The bass was so heavy on "9 millimeter" that immediate sledging occured and time was spent in the arms of a lovely girl (stranger) on one of the many flights of stairs up to the original chill-out room in the sky.

Best entertainer - Sven Vath (by a mile) numerous cans of Stella, bottles of Vodka and whatever wasn't visible to the naked eye used to go hand in hand with his set.......(then he stopped all that during '94.)

Favorite track and moment of sheer Euphoria - when the bass drops back in halfway through Hardfloors 'Acperience'

Strangest experience - Seeing the long massage trains of the early nineties for the first time. And also many peoples faces.

Other good things - The Car Park, The Queue, Lasers, and pre-charlie amazingly friendly crowds of the early early nineties.

Oh to do it all again!

N-Joi's 'Anthem'.Surely the best tune from that bygone age of true 'raving'!And I have the great pleasure of knowing Mark Franklin, one half of N-Joi,and he is delightfully bonkers! He lives in my town and still plays out under the name of Mark Kulak, has a recording studio in Southend, and has released some new stuff on the ChampionBurns label(Mr Champion is the other half of N-Joi).I think his website is www.marckulak.com
