This isn't supposed to happen, is it?
― Abbott, Friday, 17 August 2007 22:22 (eighteen years ago)
It wasn't so much "let me keep" as "nonchalantly returned it to me after using it as proof that I am a U.S. citizen."
Did they punch a hole in it? Some states let you keep it - Washington let me keep my Arizona license, but they punched a George Washington's head-shaped hole in it.
― Jaq, Friday, 17 August 2007 22:23 (eighteen years ago)
Well, one could "lose" their license and just go get a new one, so what's the difference.
― Granny Dainger, Friday, 17 August 2007 22:24 (eighteen years ago)
No hole, no nothing, just same old license that doesn't look entirely like me as I weighed 50 lbs. more at the time an was stoned in the picture.
― Abbott, Friday, 17 August 2007 22:24 (eighteen years ago)
Well, maybe because you didn't get a NM driver's license and the ID one is still valid, so why should they take it away?
― Jaq, Friday, 17 August 2007 22:34 (eighteen years ago)
It's so great! I'm gonna buy some kind of vehicle soon and I was terrified about doing it without a license...the application in NM takes like a month bcz you have to pay for all these tests about how you understand that Drunk Driving is for Dolts.
― Abbott, Friday, 17 August 2007 22:35 (eighteen years ago)
Also, how does a driver's license prove you are a citizen? I don't think any states deny driver's licenses to non-US citizens yet.
― Jaq, Friday, 17 August 2007 22:38 (eighteen years ago)
The whole thing was nutty.
― Abbott, Friday, 17 August 2007 22:41 (eighteen years ago)
Too much sunshine down there, making people all laid back and shit. :D
― Jaq, Friday, 17 August 2007 22:43 (eighteen years ago)
Do most/some/any states let you register a vehicle there if your license/residence is somewhere else?
― Kerm, Friday, 17 August 2007 22:47 (eighteen years ago)
*shrugs* I've got a little homework to do in this arena.
― Abbott, Friday, 17 August 2007 22:48 (eighteen years ago)
no pic no cred!
― wanko ergo sum, Friday, 17 August 2007 22:49 (eighteen years ago)
Do you want to see a pic.
― Abbott, Friday, 17 August 2007 22:49 (eighteen years ago)
I will tell you about it: it is a photo of my face.
― Abbott, Friday, 17 August 2007 22:50 (eighteen years ago)

― wanko ergo sum, Friday, 17 August 2007 22:53 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah I now own a vehicle on both coasts..
― Kerm, Friday, 17 August 2007 22:55 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, driver's license is not proof of citizenship, because you don't have to be a citizen (or even a permanent resident to get one). It is proof of identity though.

I got an Arizona driver's license. It expires in 2048. This state is fucking crazy.
― sharkless dick stick (Abbbottt), Thursday, 26 August 2010 20:54 (fifteen years ago)
wacky! i guess that's good? because license renewals are a pain but -- 2048!!
― tangelo amour (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 26 August 2010 21:01 (fifteen years ago)
My husband got a state ID and it just doesn't expire, ever.
― sharkless dick stick (Abbbottt), Thursday, 26 August 2010 21:01 (fifteen years ago)
In the UK, old style licenses expired when the holder was 70 years old. So someone could possibly have had a license for 53 years. (new photocard style licenses needs to be renewed every 10 years)
― Les centimètres énigmatiques (snoball), Thursday, 26 August 2010 21:03 (fifteen years ago)
so if you come to be 50 or 60 years old and still living in AZ your license will have the same photo as it does today?? what?
― tangelo amour (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 26 August 2010 21:04 (fifteen years ago)
my sister was so happy about that, her age 28 picture on there for yeaaaars
― 156, Thursday, 26 August 2010 21:05 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, I will look like a kind of trashy & sweaty 27-year-old with smeared eyeliner until 2048.
― sharkless dick stick (Abbbottt), Thursday, 26 August 2010 21:06 (fifteen years ago)
wow! is that a new thing in AZ? i remember being in phx about um, 9 or 10 years ago, and my uncle renewing his drivers license and his big complaint then was that all AZ IDs are totally crummy and within a year or something your face is almost unrecognizable on the card. muchas scuff prone iirc.
― proud teabagger from rim country (arby's), Thursday, 26 August 2010 21:07 (fifteen years ago)
xp: as long as you dont look mexican...How's AZ treating you otherwise, Abbott?
― lavender hotel kumquat (kkvgz), Thursday, 26 August 2010 21:09 (fifteen years ago)
my license is only good for 5 years! so i am really surprised by this AZ peculiarity
― tangelo amour (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 26 August 2010 21:10 (fifteen years ago)
AZ is hot as shit! And I made friends w/this dude who wants to get us into the "Navajo grindcore" scene, so that's pretty mindblowing.
― sharkless dick stick (Abbbottt), Thursday, 26 August 2010 21:11 (fifteen years ago)
OTM and OTM. in that order.
― proud teabagger from rim country (arby's), Thursday, 26 August 2010 21:12 (fifteen years ago)
My grandad got a driving licence circa 1930, when they didn't expire and you didn't need to pass a test
(I think they didn't expire, anyway - it was still his driving licence 70 years later, when he was 90 and gave up driving. He never did a test)
("grandad" looks wrong and Google Chrome spellcheck has underlined it but I asked 2 style guides. felt self-conscious enough about it being there to explain it, since Americans will think "licence" is spelt wrong too. and "spelt" for that matter. stupid language)
― vampire headphase (a passing spacecadet), Thursday, 26 August 2010 21:15 (fifteen years ago)
I still have my AZ license (with the Geo. Wash. shaped hole) - it doesn't expire until 2025. The state changed things when I was living down there (sometime in the '90s) so licenses expire when you turn 65. You could get a new picture every 10 years for free supposedly.
― Jaq, Thursday, 26 August 2010 21:16 (fifteen years ago)
aha!
― tangelo amour (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 26 August 2010 21:22 (fifteen years ago)
i got a NY license last summer and it expires on my birthday NEXT YEAR, wtf
― eastern european pale skin dark hair small boobs wife (donna rouge), Thursday, 26 August 2010 21:30 (fifteen years ago)
I still have my AZ license (with the Geo. Wash. shaped hole)I wonder what General Washington would think about this.
― kate78, Friday, 27 August 2010 00:26 (fifteen years ago)
Pretty sure he'd be unimpressed. It took me ages to figure out what that shape was on the state highway signs. I thought his ponytail was a little pine tree for a very long time.
― Jaq, Friday, 27 August 2010 00:47 (fifteen years ago)
where in AZ are ya?
― homosexual II, Friday, 27 August 2010 02:01 (fifteen years ago)
They misspelt my last name on my state ID. I didn't notice it til a week later. Is it illegal for me to still be using it after like 3 years? I've never run into problems.
― Chanté Ackerman (Stevie D), Friday, 27 August 2010 03:14 (fifteen years ago)
I still have my AZ license with an expiration date some time in the 2030's. I haven't lived there in 11 years now.
Jaq, I had the same issue with the road signs when I moved to WA and once I figured out it was Washington's head it just makes me angry. The MS Word clip art state flag enrages me too. But I'd love a Washington's head shaped hole punch.
