thought it would be fascinating to see if anyone had ever been here too

gareth, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

never that one , but I did go to a similarly named night in Sheffield city hall once or twice.

chris, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

it was the same one, he franchised out to sheffield too. went to the sheffield one a few times too, circa 96.

gareth, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

maybe slightly earlier for me, as it was before I moved down here, mind you that was in 96 so it could have been at the same time.

chris, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

blimey, and it's still going on!

chris, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I went to the Sheffield one in 1997.

Anna, Friday, 1 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I regularly attended the BB in Leeds (at the Cockpit venue) until it closed in 2001. It then re-opened at the Uni late last year and seems to be going from strength to strength. I think they sold over 500 advanced tickets last time round and more than 1300 people passed through the doors.

I don't know your musicalal bent, but if your of the MOD pursuasion then check out the small room were the UK's finest MOD DJ is resident, Mr Gav Needham.

ha, i was there last night. it was alright, but i kind of lost it cuz i had a euro, and normally, right, you expect one is going to be pretty fluffy, pretty light, just nice, but it was real heavy, so i'm kind of sat around stupified like some kind of lysergo-tom waits. same here as, like, when it opened, except they got the whole strokes thing going on, well, they think they do, but people be looking like extras from taxi, thats the ones into the strokes/white stripes shit, the britrock contingent, they looking like mechanics from bolton in 83, hard grim looking motherfuckers. felt well out of place with my silver jacket, my suede reject hair, my methylene eyes (actually, that last bit doesn't put me too much out of place at all)

anyway, leeds, you should avoid it, all the clocks have been stopped since 97...

Im a bit late only 6 months mind. Just wondering if anybody knows if this event takes place in birmingham like the flier says. if so where and when?

andy, Sunday, 10 November 2002 19:07 (twenty-three years ago)

what's a euro?

Mary (Mary), Monday, 11 November 2002 01:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Seems like something you would have heard of, actually! It's the new currency in the EU which has replaced a wide variety of national currencies -- the franc, the mark, the lira, etc.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 November 2002 02:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I have heard of this wacky new currency that has been adopted over on the continent, but G*r*th's post makes it sound like it's some wacky new drug that I've never heard of, or an unfamiliar nickname for a wacky not new drug that I have heard of, making G*r*th all not fluffy, light and and nice as he expected, but rather, heavy...G*r*th to thr**d!

Mary (Mary), Monday, 11 November 2002 05:00 (twenty-three years ago)

its a type of e

gareth (gareth), Monday, 11 November 2002 09:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I've been to the Brighton Beach in Leicester, and it's a great night out. Sweaty music to dance to and handsome mod boys strutting about, all proud of themselves and their little ties. Don't know anything about the Birmingham one, though. Sorry

Madeleine (Madeleine), Monday, 11 November 2002 09:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks G*r*th, you crazy Europeans with your crazy currencies/circumlocutions...

Mary (Mary), Monday, 11 November 2002 16:33 (twenty-three years ago)

you are turning me into n**s*h with those asterisks there m**y!

gareth (gareth), Monday, 11 November 2002 16:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Mary (Mary), Monday, 11 November 2002 18:10 (twenty-three years ago)

by the way, why have you not answered my great books of 2002 thread?

Mary (Mary), Monday, 11 November 2002 18:11 (twenty-three years ago)

i shall answer it soon. i shall have to think (of ways to cover up my unfortunate ignorance of recent literature)

gareth (gareth), Monday, 11 November 2002 19:20 (twenty-three years ago)

gareth, are you of mod persuasion?

Mary (Mary), Monday, 11 November 2002 19:24 (twenty-three years ago)

um, no, but i have been accused of such before. here used to play chocolate watch band and the seeds occasionally and also len barry and young-holt unlimited, which was kind of nice, but there was always too much blokey mod stuff going on. there was also occasionally some suede. i go periodically when i am back in leeds/bradford, but it is all charlatans etc:(

gareth (gareth), Monday, 11 November 2002 19:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I went to the Leeds one 3/4 years ago and it was a blinding night. As I recall, one room was cruddy Britpop/mod wannabe hell, the other was sweet soul music. I was nicely toasted and with a big group of friends, and I danced my skinny ass off.

Tag, Monday, 11 November 2002 20:48 (twenty-three years ago)
