I also drink it with generic sugar-free flavored "seltzer" water sold in MA grocery stores and get way drunker than I intended to get.

HI DERE, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:18 (eighteen years ago)

I have never tried a non-marg mixed drink that involved tequila, unless LIITea has it.

wanko ergo sum, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:21 (eighteen years ago)

Margarita 'mix' shit is consistently gross. If I wanted to drink something that flavor I would order a Midori sour. Bitter & limey salt yum.

Most usually I drink it neat.

Abbott, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:27 (eighteen years ago)

with a straw, straight out of the bottle. and a chaser of soy sauce.

Rubyredd, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:29 (eighteen years ago)

I drink margs on the rocks with salted rim. as long as the lime juice is fresh and there's no 'mix' involved, the results are OK-to-delish. Applebee's has a good top-shelf margarita.

wanko ergo sum, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:35 (eighteen years ago)

You lost me at "Applebee's".

HI DERE, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:37 (eighteen years ago)

wanko ergo sum, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:38 (eighteen years ago)

and to be fair you lost me at sugar-free flavored seltzer water

wanko ergo sum, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:40 (eighteen years ago)

Is that an OLIVE in a MARGARITA?????

HI DERE, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:47 (eighteen years ago)

ORDER OF MAGNITUDE NASTIER THAN ANY SUGAR-FREE NONSENSE I COULD CONCOCT

HI DERE, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:47 (eighteen years ago)

Looks like Red Lobster's "Lobsterita," minus the beaded lobster necklace.

Abbott, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:49 (eighteen years ago)

i found a pic of the Applebee's marg that I like, but it was a .bmp. So I posted that monstrosity instead.

I'm not saying that Applebee's Top Shelf is the best margarita ever, just way better than expected. Plus they give you like 6 extra ounces in the shaker, which is weird-slash-cool.

xxp

I had to drink a Texas Roadhous 'rita a month or two ago. It's like a fucking sno-cone.

http://www.texasroadhouse.com/images/news/141.jpg

Abbott, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:50 (eighteen years ago)

lol Texas Roadhouse! I was at one in New Bedford last week and all of the servers suddenly started line-dancing for ABSOLUTELY NO REASON. I thought they'd slipped acid into my beer.

HI DERE, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:52 (eighteen years ago)

That place was fucking terrifying. How is sawdust and peanut shells all over the floor even remotely appealing? My friend's mother took us there for a "nice supper," and I was having a very hard time not LMAO at the kid's menu item: "Li'l Dillo." Guess what I thought that looked like.

wanko ergo sum, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:57 (eighteen years ago)

That sounds even scarier than the cover of TARKUS, which is pretty hard to beat.

Abbott, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:58 (eighteen years ago)

no shot/salt/lime, no credibility... wtf are you british?

Steve Shasta, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:59 (eighteen years ago)

MEZCAL, PLZ

P'zone, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

i am astonished i didn't think of that. but it has been years since i've had a true tequila shot. BODYSHOTS should have been a poll entry.

xp

wanko ergo sum, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:04 (eighteen years ago)

No, those are revolting. Why even put salt on a person when you're going to lick their sweaty body anyway. Yuck.

Abbott, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:13 (eighteen years ago)

DUDE, NO POPPERS, NO CREDIBILITY.

John Justen, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:26 (eighteen years ago)

Neat. If I can't sip it, I ain't drinking it.

Michael White, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:52 (eighteen years ago)

i put it in my mouth

Filey Camp, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:55 (eighteen years ago)

I used to work at Texas Roadhouse (where we didn't have to dance, thank god). I quit showing up after they made me work a New Year's Eve shift when I had the flu - in between serving people FOOD, I'd go in the back and puke in the trash cans.

Shots are about it for me. I don't even care for the taste of good tequila, so the faster it's down, the better.

milo z, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:56 (eighteen years ago)

That is bad new bears do japan for reals.

Tequila never gives me a hangover...I discovered this after my 23rd birthday when I did like 17 shots of it and woke up all fine and dandy.

Abbott, Saturday, 18 August 2007 01:15 (eighteen years ago)

The smell gags me, so I don't drink it.

Say, maybe you tequila drinkers can tell me about this bottle of mezcal I acquired:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v296/WilliamCrump63/mezcal.jpg

It and a bottle of Raynal brandy were in the boxes along with a large lot of old books I bought at an auction three years ago. I have no idea how old it is, but it has a Texas State Liquor Tax sticker with $1.10 on it. Don't know if that was the price of the whole bottle or just the amt. of state tax paid on it.

Does anybody know the brand, Gusano de Oro? Does liquor continue to improve after bottling? These bottles probably spent years getting hot in the summer and near freezing in the winter -- does that degrade the quality of the liquor?

Rock Hardy, Saturday, 18 August 2007 01:32 (eighteen years ago)

Rocks margarita with salt, plz

Sara R-C, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:10 (eighteen years ago)

WRONG. SHOT GLASS+DURANGO+FLAT 7UP+TERRIBLE DECISION MAKING, PLZ.

Repeat as necessary.

John Justen, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:12 (eighteen years ago)

You know what, I'm not changing my mind!

Sara R-C, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:16 (eighteen years ago)

YOUR LOSS.

John Justen, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:19 (eighteen years ago)

I acknowledge the possibility.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:21 (eighteen years ago)

Wouldn't be the first time.

Sara R-C, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:21 (eighteen years ago)

Does liquor continue to improve after bottling?

Generally, no. If the lid is still sealed tight and the level in the bottle hasn't dropped much (from vaporizing in the heat), it should be pretty close to the same as when it was bottled. Gusana de oro means "gold worm" - that's considered lower quality than gusana de roja (red worm) mescal. Should be fine for drinking either way.

Jaq, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:44 (eighteen years ago)

Rock Hardy, what does it say along the bottom edge of the label?

Jaq, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:47 (eighteen years ago)

"If you drink me, your will develop labial crust."

HI DERE, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:49 (eighteen years ago)

When I was still drinking tequila, it was either neat for better, smoother tequilas or shots/salt/lime followed by a water chaser. I pretty much quit after a shots contest with a co-worker on a project that ended in tears (his).

Your eyes are better than mine Mr. DERE :D I thought it had something to do with avoiding open flame.

Jaq, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:54 (eighteen years ago)

The bottom says "EL ABUSO EN EL CONSUMO DE ESTE PRODUCTO ES NOCIVO PARA [?] SALUD"

Rock Hardy, Saturday, 18 August 2007 04:17 (eighteen years ago)

"Abusive consumption of this is not good for your health." Imagine that!

Jaq, Saturday, 18 August 2007 04:24 (eighteen years ago)

how can anyone drink this stuff straight? i mean, i'd puke if i even tried sipping it. definitely made for shots and nothing else.

J.D., Saturday, 18 August 2007 04:39 (eighteen years ago)

and it's the lime that makes it bearable, not the salt.

J.D., Saturday, 18 August 2007 04:39 (eighteen years ago)

In Vienna they served tequila shots with a slice of orange instead of the lime, first time I'd ever seen that. Pretty good though.

patita, Saturday, 18 August 2007 04:54 (eighteen years ago)

If you can't drink it straight you're either not buying the right brands or maybe you should think about switching to malibu or something with an umbrella in it.

There should only be two options for this poll:
"neat"
"I'm a simpering pansy who doesn't know how to drink like an adult."

l, Saturday, 18 August 2007 05:12 (eighteen years ago)

Dan Perry, you were in New Beige? You shoulda jumped on the Fast Ferry and come and seen us! We would have made you an oliveless margarita!

Beth Parker, Saturday, 18 August 2007 05:17 (eighteen years ago)

Usually about two shots worth in a small glass with a couple of ice cubes.

Mike Dixn, Saturday, 18 August 2007 05:41 (eighteen years ago)

I only once had a margarita (or was it tequila sunrise?) and I hated it. :-(

nathalie, Saturday, 18 August 2007 08:02 (eighteen years ago)

Tequila makes me want to die. That said, usually with salt and lime. Idk if that's called anything special.

Ivan, Saturday, 18 August 2007 08:05 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't realize that they put Tequila in Margaritas until this thread. If I'd known that I wouldn't even have had the occaisional Margarita every now and again. I remember a particularly hellacious hangover in the early 90's from sitting in the bar at the restaurant I worked in and drinking Tequila shots with a strikingly beautiful waitress there and it was the first time I'd ever drank Tequila and as I said the hangover was a mountainous tidal wave of hell and since then I have deliberately avoided anything to do with Tequila, and I will continue to do so. Thanks.

Where's the "out of a bucket" option?

Noodle Vague, Saturday, 18 August 2007 10:38 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.
