one of the most awkward moments of my adolescence: mom gets the phone bill, sees 1-900 calls on there. she comes to me, absolutely fuming ("the talk" was given to me via a dr. james dobson book), and asks if i had been calling sex numbers. the truth was much worse: it was a phone number to get help on beating zelda. i was shamed.

It's a fucking awful walnut-varnish record.

The only interesting thing about it is that it breaks the as-then usual Beach Boys cover photo-literalism.

i.e. Beach Boys holding surfboards = songs about surfing
Beach Boys in cars = songs about cars

Why doesn't this record have songs called "Feeding Mammals USA", "Gnu City", "Zoo's Up" etc? It would be much better if it did.

Sometimes watching Aeon Flux episodes (especially in the case of "utopia or deuteranopia) I wonder which writers would inspire a person like Aeon if she existed in reality. I know, I know, Aeon doesn't have an agenda set by a certain ideology etc... but some of the ideas that seemingly can explain the motivives behind Aeons actions can most definetely be found among real writers and philosofers. I have a suggestion, after reading 2 of Ayn Rands books recently I've noticed certain parallells between Aeon and Ayn.

Anyone else got a suggestion?

-- nalle, Monday, November 26, 2007 11:44 PM (Yesterday) Bookmark Link

Just thought of something, I think the problem with "utopia or deuteranopia" is that it ends by telling the viewer that ultimately Aeon just had to control Trevor and keeping him on a leash rather then just getting rid of him. The problem is thou that politically this doesn't really concretisise what we should promot in order to keep a person like Trevor under control. I think that if Peter wants the episode to be taken serously as a political episode it would have needed to tell us more about what we can do as a people. The episode really only tells us that people like Aeon is going to keep the struggle going but nothing stops us from expanding if you think about it. I think thats the type of things about Ayn Rand, the author, that speaks to me very deeply, she really showed us the true extent of the hipocripsy in our governments and she gave a very passionate and rational argument for expanding capitalism, strenthen our human rights, and be objectivists, etc.

Utopia or Deuteranopia is simply to vague in it's message to be seen as one of the better episodes of Aeon Flux.

any comments?

Obviously, Morrissey is ill-advised in those cases, and I don't think he is factually right either. I've been to both London and Berlin recently, and Berlin is probably even more culturally shaped by Turkish and Croatian immigrants than London is by Pakistani and Indian ones. But there is still a lot of English culture left in London, like there is German culture left in Berlin (and Norwegian culture left in Oslo). And it will always stay that way.

Surely, you may not get that impression in Brixton or on Edgware Road, but there is a lot more to London than that.

But, if he isn't speaking about immigration, isn't it possible that it is Americanization Morrissey is speaking out against?
In which case, the entire hip-hop-thing may also be seen as sort of an Americanization, mind you.

OK: A (extra 3 points for 1907, my favorite year)

NM: C- –I like the zia & the state of yr shape and all, but god did you design this in MS Word or something? That is the ugliest possible way you could have placed your state nickname. Look what AZ did with its banner. Seriously, maybe ask your neighboring quarter for help in the future.

AZ: A+ –Beautiful detail, nice balance, and you have like a preschool sun on there!

AL: A –I think this is the only quarter with a MURDER on it.

HA: A –Nice that you went for yr history! "Yeah we have our own language and we HAD our own king, jackasses." The double deuce of the quarter world.

AL: this refers to the State of Alabama
HA: There is no HA

There was this great thing on the radio where a teacher was talking abt how her class was going to do a pen pal exchange with a class in another state. And her class got to write to Maine! She'd made Maine this exotic place in her mind, and shared her excitement and wonder with the young students, who wrote poems about lobsters and snow for the other students.

When she got her package from the other class, it came with a note from the teacher that said, "I'm sorry, MA is Massachusetts, not Maine."

NOW I SEE MY FUTURE

LJ do you ever stop in mid-poppage and say "hey! this is some great poppage we're having right here huh?"

I have a feeling we'll all yet find out in too much detail.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 30 November 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

i was in my room with this girl and another girl, and they wanted to know who had a deeper vaginal canal, and wanted me to measure it for them by successive poppages. midway through the first poppage, i was admiring the quality of the poppage and exclaimed "hey! this is some great poppage we're having right here huh?", and she said "oh shut the fuck up just tell me how deep it is", it wasn't actually very deep, as the tip of my penis was able to engage her cervix with the penis only in two thirds of the way. unfortuantely after the first ejaculation i wasn't able to re-erect the penis to measure the second girl, luckily another guy walked in, but the girls thought it would only be fair if they used the same penis to measure with. so the guy went down on me to get the penis back to an erect state, and i was able to insert it into the second girl whose vagina was way deeper as it consumed my whole penis with room to spare.

That's clearly fake, I didn't have to look up one archaic English word.
