Walking two blocks through this neighbourhood is like a live action version of Mario Bros except with twitching skeletons swaying back and forth instead of mushrooms and dead-eyed, sweaty bundles of rags every few feet. You can see 5-10 people shooting up in the street/alleyways in the space of about 15 minutes without even looking hard.

The situation is firmly established as a disgrace, not only to our city but to Canada. This is the poorest neighbourhood in the country and it is a national embarassment that it is kept that way because of international politics. The only people who are against the safe injection site are are Canadian politicians kow-towing to the US Government's perverse, dogmatic demands about the "war on drugs", (and their idiotic followers).

The dude who's arguing in that thread you linked to doesn't know what he's talking about. Typically, despite his claim, I doubt he's from Canada based on the information he supplied (MA in Ethics from Fordham and a "federal agent"?). It's probably the fucking US Ambassador David Wilkins posting anonymously.

The actual reality is that pretty much everyone here wants the injection site to stay, expand even. It's sickening that our city is subject to this kind of abuse by people who don't even live in the same country.
