I learnt yesterday that in the Polish version of Winnie the Pooh Christopher Robin is just called Chris. This seems wrong to me.
In the French Harry Potter, Voldemort's original name is changed from Tom Riddle to Tom Elvis Jedusor to make it an anagram of 'Je Suis Voldemort'.
I don't know if that counts as inappropriate or not.

in the original French version of Magic Roundabout, Dougal is called Pollux. Why so? Is he a twin? No, well, not as far as I know. Pollux speaks in a comedy English accent, so we might expect an archetypally English name to have been chosen.

In the Danish translation of the Donald Duck comics, Donald is called Anders And and Daisy is Andersine And... gives their relationship a slightly incestuous feel, I think.
In the French translation, Duckburg is called Donaldville -- why? It's not like Donald is a particularly important citizen there.
