A friend wants to watch it tonight. I haven't seen it in years. I remember it as a subtler middlebrow Oscar winner than its reputation suggests.

Alfred, I applaud your efforts at political correctness, but I'm not sure Gloria Steinem had made many inroads among the black working class in 1950s Atlanta.

I liked it, but it has been a long time since I saw it... I'm really fond of both Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy, though. I'd see it again. (So I vote classic.)

i'd rather watch it than 11 of the 17 films that have won the best picture oscar since.

Yeah, I am more fond of this one than almost all other BPs, but it's slight to a fault.

It appears I'm more fond of DMD than I am of all but 9 other BP winners.

Let's try that again.

Still surprised it won Best Picture when Born On The Fourth of July was the obvious abhorrent choice.
― Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 30 August 2007 00:30 (eighteen years ago)
So I didn't watch it last night.
― Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 30 August 2007 17:44 (eighteen years ago)
Thank you for providing closure.

i love this movie!
― Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 18:31 (eighteen years ago)
I remember basically zero about this film: is this a hint of its "slightness," or has it just been too long?
They have a pleasant friendship, I remember that.
― nabisco, Thursday, 30 August 2007 18:45 (eighteen years ago)
i think it's just been too long it's not THAT slight, she's so cool!
― Surmounter, Thursday, 30 August 2007 18:47 (eighteen years ago)
Doing Ms. Daisy
― Heave Ho, Thursday, 30 August 2007 19:02 (eighteen years ago)
You're thinking of "Riding Miss Daisy," starring David Allen Grier and Kelly Coffield.
Ha, I think people missed the thrust of Jaymc's joke...
― nabisco, Thursday, 30 August 2007 19:14 (eighteen years ago)
this falls under the same category as winners like Going My Way - so lazy, ineffectual and bland that it's hard to actively hate it, more shrug worthy than anything.
― gershy, Friday, 31 August 2007 03:18 (eighteen years ago)
I got jaymc's joke.
― Eric H., Friday, 31 August 2007 03:45 (eighteen years ago)
ha! somehow that skit has replaced anything I ever knew about the actual movie (I never saw it).

It's no Bangkok Chick Boys, that's for sure.
