Movies wherein the last scene clearly indicates that the makers had a sequel planned, but no sequel came after it.

I mean *very* clearly, not just ones where it hinted, or there could have been one.

My understanding is that Big Trouble in Little China was originally supposed to be a BB movie.

Speaking of which, Big Trouble in Little China.

i cant believe anyone else remembers that movie

s1ocki, Sunday, 2 September 2007 17:31 (eighteen years ago)

I do a shot-for-shot remake of that movie in my mind almost every day

El Tomboto, Sunday, 2 September 2007 17:34 (eighteen years ago)

hahahaha Tom OTM! That was the first movie I thought of when I read the thread title.

HI DERE, Sunday, 2 September 2007 17:35 (eighteen years ago)

i LOVED remo williams.

Also, I like when games do this, e.g. Anachronox, Prey, or Psychonauts. Only thing is that it can be more heartbreaking with games remembered for this kinda thing, b/c the quality level is usually far higher than movies that try to pull this.

kingfish, Sunday, 2 September 2007 17:36 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah I love Remo Williams, esp. the falling-into-concrete scene at the Statue of Liberty. CLASSIC.

Euler, Sunday, 2 September 2007 17:37 (eighteen years ago)

hahaha, sinanju.com exists.

Even some bits about the tv pilot, where Chiun worships an old poster of Barbra.

Erm, Jumanji? It's one of the top 5 worst films I've ever seen, but I think its fits these criteria.

Zathura = sequel to Jumanji

Yeah but it's really more of a remake than a true sequel.

Nutjob Japanese horror film Uzumaki. I'm guessing the planned sequel would've explained what was going on in the first instalment, but as it is we're left hanging. Unless there was a sequel I never heard about.

Matt #2, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 16:41 (eighteen years ago)

Remo Williams II and Chinese Democracy are the two things I'm waiting for the most.

Remo could run around on the being-constructed Freedom Tower perhaps.

Also still trying to figure out how to perform that palm-tap.

Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

That film about dragons that came out last year, I doubt if there will be a sequel to that one.

jel --, Tuesday, 4 September 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

"Eragon" is the film I mean, I stake my reputation on there never being a sequel to this.

Actually, in all seriousness: The Kingdom II

Right? That drives me nuts. And now that the actor who played Helmer is dead, it'll probably never happen.

I guess that it's not technically a movie, though. But if we were giving televisual examples, Twin Peaks would definitely fit the bill.

I'd say Land of the Dead, but it'll probably happen in another ten to fifteen years, if history has taught us anything.

Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money

Although not exactly the end.

Also History of The World Part 1.

Every day of my life that I don't hear that there is actually going to be a Big Trouble In Little China sequel coming out soon is another worst day of my life.

Haven't seen it, but it is a remake of a film that does have a sequel.

Yes, but the ending is pretty different in the original too...

Girolamo Savonarola, Wednesday, 5 September 2007 02:58 (eighteen years ago)

Nutjob Japanese horror film Uzumaki. I'm guessing the planned sequel would've explained what was going on in the first instalment, but as it is we're left hanging. Unless there was a sequel I never heard about.

You should read the comic it's based on, the final part explains what's going on. Sort of.

I can't believe no one (including myself) mentioned Band of Outsiders.

Masters of the Universe

Eric H., Monday, 10 September 2007 18:09 (seventeen years ago)

I guess that it's not technically a movie, though. But if we were giving televisual examples, Twin Peaks would definitely fit the bill.

not quite sure what you mean by this

they knew it was canceled and there was a pretty definite ending iirc

and it spawned a movie prequel

dmr, Monday, 10 September 2007 18:39 (seventeen years ago)

It ended with Cooper in the Black Lodge. Which, I guess, might be someone's idea of a satisfactory ending, but it certainly seemed staged as a cliffhanger. Also, not only was a continuation suggested, but another movie (sequel) was planned and subsequently aborted after the poor performance of Fire Walk With Me. There actually is some degree of closure in the original FWWM script, but it didn't make it into the film.

And Eric H.: Check out Cyborg. It was originally meant to be Masters of the Universe 2 but it got retooled as a Van Damme vehicle.
