Simply the best beer writer in the world has sadly sipped his last pint:

His "The Great Beers of Belgium" is the best beer book ever written.
I'm gonna miss him - I never did get to one of his tasting sessions at the Great British Beer Festival. RIP.

Aw damn, I've just seen him on Conan and looked at his website a few times, he was cool. RIP.

"Beer writer" is a job? I missed a calling :(
I could have used that book when I was in Belgium, to save me trying all of them.
RIP, dude I've never heard of.

Woah! I remember this guy, an ex bf of mine had his big Beer Bible book and we used to watch one of his TV shows. He was great. RIP :(

Well, hopefully this may mean that they repeat his 'Beer Hunter' series on TV soon.
He was one of those writers who made makes you so enthusiastic to try the beers he wrote about. I would never had tried Belgian Lambics if it hadn't been for this man.
I'd be a lot richer financially, but would have missed out on one of life's major pleasures.

I did't know how well known he was outside of the UK. As is hinted at up thread - his enthusiasm for the stuff he loved really shone through. He was a total expert but never let that get in the way of his sheer love of beer (and whiskey).

I didn't realize he had already passed, saw this thread on New Answers and thought, okay now, what the shit.

He was pretty well known in the US, at least to people who appreciate this kind of stuff. I definitely appreciate this guy's body of work much more than the "other" Mike Jackson.

Well, I basically have no familiarity with him as a "personality" -- I just know that Michael Jackson:beer::Robert Parker:wine.

xpYeah, I revived it because somehow I missed it the first time around. You don't buy the paper one day in 2007 and that guy you like gets to live another couple of years (if only in your head).
