hehe. Well the news is always boggered down with details. I like the simple approach (which happens to be what politicians use when the campaign). I have a mathematical mindset. And also a philosophical/caring mindset. It's hard to argue with anyone who can't think in a basic Outline form.

I'm not very articulate but, I just learn better on the go... without having to read a bunch of material that's overkill.

So I was looking for ways to conquer arguements after reading some information that is already categorized and includes points and counterpoints and stats and graphs.

sigh. Im asking for too much out of the internet.

oh cool, links since I last posted, I'll check.

CaptainLorax, Thursday, 6 September 2007 03:59 (seventeen years ago)

Maybe I'll just look up candidate stances and use that as a starting point for my new interest in politics.

CaptainLorax, Thursday, 6 September 2007 04:00 (seventeen years ago)

Tell us the arguments you'd like to counter.

You don't know much about American politics and you're asking the internet for a list of talking points so you can talk shit about people? Thank you for your contribution to society, Patriot.

haha. I only know right and wrong. This war is wrong. The idea that only a 2 party system would work is wrong. The electoral college is wrong. Religion mixed with politics is wrong. The amount of social justice in america right now is wrong (women's rights; racial justice; homelessness; gay, lesbian, and bisexual rights). Environment should be a more important concern.

hmm those are some of the reasons why Im interested in politics.

CaptainLorax, Thursday, 6 September 2007 06:36 (seventeen years ago)

If you know all that, then what do you need us for? Reasons?

Are you still in high school?

The amount of social justice in america right now is wrong (women's rights; racial justice; homelessness; gay, lesbian, and bisexual rights).

Too much or not enough?

onimo, Thursday, 6 September 2007 07:19 (seventeen years ago)

He just knows right and wrong. Don't you have any graphs or stats?

That's me with the rainbow suspenders. Folks around these parts call me 'log log log.'

humansuit, Thursday, 6 September 2007 14:31 (seventeen years ago)

lorax: start by reading the documents that'll help you put current events into perspective - the constitution itself especially, but also the federalist papers and any good account of the constitutional convention you can find (i like charles mee's "the genius of the people," myself).

then read up as much as you can on the rise of the two parties - there are good books about both. (for a terrific if rather controversial account of the party system, try to find h.r. shapiro's great "the bureaucratic state.")

it's not exactly what you're asking for but it'll arm you with the background knowledge and context you need to understand where, say, the current flap over primaries stands in relation to party history.
