Also, a better example of how to write a menu.

Ed, Thursday, 13 September 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

Cuttlefish, I think, though the marrow, the brain, and the beets look tempting.

Michael White, Thursday, 13 September 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

Salt beef sounds a little heavy for a starter, went with the crab.

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 13 September 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

Almost all of that sounds horrible.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 13 September 2007 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

Their mayonaise is a thing of beauty, the Marrow is a great thing to have as a snack in their bar, such a difficult decision when eating there.

Ed, Thursday, 13 September 2007 16:23 (eighteen years ago)

PIG'S SPLEEN ALL THE WAY.

God, I love St John.

Matt DC, Thursday, 13 September 2007 16:23 (eighteen years ago)

Mmmmmmmmmm - marrow for me. Tempted by the beetroot, crab & mayo, and brain though.

how does the brain taste?

blueski, Thursday, 13 September 2007 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

I've only ever had brain as part of a bolito... I assume it's just grilled here if it's on toast?

Dom Passantino, Thursday, 13 September 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

i think i will have to pussy out and have the soup

blueski, Thursday, 13 September 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

is this british food?

pj, Thursday, 13 September 2007 16:51 (eighteen years ago)

Either salt beef or the crab, dudes -- the rest of the menu squicks me out.

Laurel, Thursday, 13 September 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

St John's game pie is the best pie i have ever eaten.

blueski, Thursday, 13 September 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

Brain could be creamed or sauteed in brown butter on toast. (xpost)

Jaq, Thursday, 13 September 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

does it taste like pork pie jelly?

blueski, Thursday, 13 September 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

Alas, no. Few things approach the divine that is good pork pie jelly.

Jaq, Thursday, 13 September 2007 17:00 (eighteen years ago)

No love for the beetroot, or just overwhelmed buy the other choices?

Ed, Friday, 14 September 2007 09:13 (eighteen years ago)

Mark G, Friday, 14 September 2007 09:14 (eighteen years ago)

i would've gone for the ol' beet n' chove minus the boiled egg

blueski, Friday, 14 September 2007 09:16 (eighteen years ago)

Ed, Friday, 14 September 2007 09:18 (eighteen years ago)

Calf's Brain-> EW! And before you ask: "Have you tasted it?" Uh... no. :-(

nathalie, Friday, 14 September 2007 09:23 (eighteen years ago)

Calf's Brain-> EW! And before you ask: "Have you tasted it?" Uh... yeah! :-(

Mark G, Friday, 14 September 2007 09:26 (eighteen years ago)

God, do people really eat bone marrow?

nate woolls, Friday, 14 September 2007 09:29 (eighteen years ago)

No, but they keep on trying to sell it, apparently. ;-)

nathalie, Friday, 14 September 2007 09:29 (eighteen years ago)

i would have had the artichoke

Filey Camp, Friday, 14 September 2007 09:35 (eighteen years ago)

i strongly dislike watercress, though artichoke is rather nice.

pea & ham soup is so... ordinary. something i'd make at home...

nathalie, Friday, 14 September 2007 09:36 (eighteen years ago)

St John is about very ordinary food done exceedingly well.

Ed, Friday, 14 September 2007 09:38 (eighteen years ago)

Brains, bone marrow and pig's spleen are ordinary food? Jesus, I've led a sheltered life.

nate woolls, Friday, 14 September 2007 09:43 (eighteen years ago)

Ordinary food until the industrialisation of agriculture, now they just throw them into processed muck, but they can be quite exquisite on their own.
