I caught the beginning of Killing Me Softly on tv a few nights ago, having no idea what it was, and couldn't look away. It was almost hypnotizing.

Why I like her: see, she's all purrty and doll-like, and could constantly get cast as "bubbly" or "vulnerable" -- except she has this big-eyed straightforward fast-talking thing and these matter-of-fact speech patterns, and they combine to this point where she often starts to border on kinda CRAZY, like SCARY-enthusiastic pretty. This is why the only scene I remember from Boogie Nights is the one where she and Julianne Moore are doing loads of coke and she's all crazy-eyed happy and "you can be like my mom." Nobody has ever succeeded in casting her as the pretty blonde Everygirl, because she comes off like she's operating on some whole other totally wired level, like she eats ecstasy for breakfast.

(The problem with this is that Scrubs seized on exactly this aspect of her and proceeded to beat it like a dead horse in the most annoying of ways.)

There's this idea that people only like her if they want to DO her, but my sense is that if she's anywhere near as full of pent-up big-eyed energy as her acting makes her seem, I would quickly flee her presence rather than have any of that directed at me. In some ways she's like a scary alien model of Lauren Graham, more unnerving than cute about it.

Heather Graham gets all this attention while my John Duigan thread languishes...there is no justice!!!

i totally like her! b/c of the twin peaks and the drugstore cowboy and the license to drive, plus her being on arrested development and scrubs. my reasons are similar to nabisco's otm reasoning. plus she is also on the v short list of women i wld DO.

I have just watched an interview with her, and reconfirmed that she (a) is smart, and (b) has a PSYCHO LAUGH.

I voted Swingers because it's a really small but apt role. I think she's kinda terrible in almost every comedy she's ever been in with a large role, like she gives off a lightweight vibe that gets her cast in comedies but she's actually incapable of being funny or even being a good straight woman.

this might account for some of my hate, actually. strangely has not affected my love for rosario dawson.

She comes off better in interviews (I think I've seen her on Conan a few times and that's about it) than in her films. Being a complete ignoramus when it comes to film I can't say I've seen her more "serious" work.

i am a little surprised at nabisco's comment upthread (ie. reconfirmed that she is smart) as for some reason i have been under the impression for a few years that it was an "open secret" in Hollywood that she was stupid and a really bad actress, and - in some more venal way than we usually - really only got film roles by sleeping with people.

I really like her. She passes the 'could I sit and get drunk with this woman' test. I just get the feeling she'd be great to go out with and despite her being all Hollywood gorgeous, you'd never feel like the ugly friend.

She's great, she's always been great, and if nabisco wouldn't actually "do" her I'll give him £5.

I've gotten through three decades of life without sleeping with Heather Graham, and I'm pretty confident this streak will continue through to my death: I take checks, credit cards, money orders, gold, and petroleum.

I sat next to HG and Ed Burns once in a restaurant. She was really ordinary looking in person. Cute but nothing special. Also, they had absolutely no problems with engaging in PDA.

She's up there with Kate Hudson. I. Can. Not. Stand. Her. At. All. Maybe she exploits her quirky zany methed out persona, but, if at all possible, I avoid it at all costs. Except Boogie Nights, which was great, even though she was in it. I'm not sure why I hate her (or Kate) so much. Probably the bubbly cute roles they play. (Also calling Drew B here!) Coupled with a vapid stupidity (reconfirmed: Kate Hudson's interview in Haaaperz Bazaaar for example).

The fact that she went out with Adam Ant when he first started losing his marbles is the only interesting thing about her
