I can't think of a movie that ILX would be more divided on, son-doming aside

Ebert loves it! Everyone else hates it.
my freind last night went off on this whole rap abt how the movie would get der yng folx interested in the beatles but it was the guiness & dewars talking
k: "I really think the beatles are gonna be big again!"
m: "waht can you imagine yr (teenage) kid caring about them? I can't -- my kid regards the beatles as we did say frank sinatra when we were around 12 years old -- SQUARESVILLE."
he got kinda pissed at me, actually. but I may be wrong once again so school me youth demographic...

the movie itself looks odd enough in the trailer that I might enjoy it
― m coleman, Saturday, 15 September 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)
yeah, it looks awful on paper but julie taymor: i quite liked her previous movies (especailly that shakespear adptation, titus)
― Zeno, Saturday, 15 September 2007 16:24 (eighteen years ago)
my hate is already preceding it
― Hurting 2, Saturday, 15 September 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)
This looks weird, I really love Clement/La Frenais but the last thing I saw that they wrote was Goal! which is pretty awful. I like Beatles but I hate Beatlesolatry. This could go either way for me.
― Noodle Vague, Saturday, 15 September 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)
Clement and La Frenais also wrote Honest, the smash hit All Saints/Dave Stewart movie
― Dom Passantino, Saturday, 15 September 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)
ok i am pretty sure julie taymor is totally brilliant even tho i've only ever really liked her oedipus rex.
this will prob be annoying and terrible but WHAT IF IT'S NOT

Maybe it's like the Likely Lads movie but with tits.

Julie Taymor's involvement is the only thing that makes me think this will amazing. Everything else seems like the worst bits of "Moulin Rouge" stuck together with "Rent".
― HI DERE, Saturday, 15 September 2007 17:27 (eighteen years ago)
uh
― river wolf, Saturday, 15 September 2007 17:32 (eighteen years ago)
that magic flute was awesome not even as much for the taymor but because it was a new english translation. updated. nice.
taymor was on oprah yesterday and they showed a bunch of this movie. i am not impressed. in fact, i love titus and even her lion king design but this looked so cheesy and pandering (esp. the let it be scene). dan perry otm.

BTW I did "La Clemenza di Tito" the woman who played The First Lady in that Taymor production; she is awesome!
― HI DERE, Saturday, 15 September 2007 17:46 (eighteen years ago)
That's a sweet looking Magic Flute. I'm gonna have a few rums and watch this version tonight, I think.
― Noodle Vague, Saturday, 15 September 2007 18:30 (eighteen years ago)
i think the likely lads movie DID have tits in it.
― pisces, Saturday, 15 September 2007 19:31 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah I realised that after I posted. Ah well. Insert Dave Stewart joke here.
― Noodle Vague, Saturday, 15 September 2007 19:33 (eighteen years ago)
Could it be any worse than this?
