blueski, Monday, 17 September 2007 17:53 (eighteen years ago)

week of the year would be silly. but days... i can see it happening. months, too.

GREEN FTW

blueski, Monday, 17 September 2007 17:57 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, like I can choose a favorite color! Like a ten-year-old with a spy kit told me a while ago, "I like ALL the colors of the rainbow." Then he showed me a graffiti on the playground equipment that said "Katie has big boobs." He asked me if I was Katie. I'm not Katie.

No when it gets below -20f for like two weeks. The swing betweenwinter and double winter is as wide as the swing between any other adjacent pair of seasons

i'm an autumn girl and i approve of these results.

i find people always say autumn but really a lot of ppl complain when it actually is autumn because its cold and wet and dark. there's usually a few nice days where you can smell leaves burning and maybe have some cocoa and reflect on things and its not too cold, and even the first couple of cold rains are refreshing, but overall definitely the most overrated season imo. it is pretty good if youre feeling wistful but that's not enough to make it best season ever.

so obv summer

what up cuz? what up tupp? what up gangsta? (J0rdan S.), Monday, 29 June 2009 05:05 (sixteen years ago)

this would be a great and interesting region-specific geo-poll, like make a thematic map of the results by county or something and see if there's any correlation between climate and seasonal preference. Surely Arizonans would prefer winter and North Dakotans would prefer summer, but where would the region of most split preference be located?

Because we hate the summer - too hot - and the winter - too cold. Not sure how I would explain autumn in regard to spring though.

I'll let Stevem do that. Then he can explain the favourite weekend of the year!

I don't know how it compares to other places, but here spring is shorter than autumn and very soggy. Autumn, by comparison, is what you might call "crisp."

You know what? I have a question. It's probably a stupid question, but aren't they all? Anyway.

How come the relatively small tilt of the Earth (hello rrrobyn's display name <3!) is more important than the distance to the Sun season-wise?

I mean, look: this causes the seasons, right? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Axial_tilt
But this doesn't? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Seasons1.svg <- wouldn't you expect July 3rd to be one of the coldest days of the year anywhere? But no, it's Summer in the Northern hemisphere.

So: how does this difference of 5 million kilometers ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aphelion#The_perihelion_and_aphelion_of_the_Earth ) have less influence on Summer/Winter than that tilt? The answer will probably contain "the atmosphere" but even so: ???
