I can't find the thread for 'Once' that I'm sure is already about 700 messages long.

It's here somewhere right?

I decided this movie is never going to leave our local Landmark Theaters theater. It's been there longer than My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Although maybe it's on ILM.

The Belated Thread for Once

jaymc, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 04:42 (eighteen years ago)

Wow, that thread's not very long at all. I thought everyone had seen it about eight times now.

I'd rather rip my throat out.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 04:45 (eighteen years ago)

I was only sort of mildly interested in it, but it's gotten so much good word of mouth, at least among people I know, that I'm hoping I get to see it before it leaves town.

(The problem now is that it has to compete with all the fall Oscar contenders for my attention.)

jaymc, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 04:49 (eighteen years ago)

Fuckin' great movie. Go see it.

Ned so very OTM.

From a third thread on here about Once:

Saw it, thought it was shit. Hate The Frames, hated his voice, hated the awful tweeness of it all, hated the fact that everyone watching it was going "ooh look there's Fitzsimons", hated the music in it, hated the dire end, hated the godawful moment after studio, hated the "hey this ain't bad" moment in the studio, hated how long it was, hated the fact that I had paid for a ticket, hated sort of a musical, but not really make up your mind you shit film, hated the true, moving, deep feelings expressed in the songs that they write and sing to each other because they totally weren't worth the feelings (and weren't true anyway, they SPOILER don't stay together do they?SPOILER ENDS. Actually you (the art of music is giving the characters a true spirit and meaning to their life) have managed to point out everything I hated about this film, almost.

it's a one trick pony sort of a movie, but it works. No it doesn't for all of the reasons above and the fact that what should have been a straightforward rubbish film became total crap through needless length, characterization and plot. Soundtrack was total shit as well.

it's short enough for the viewer not to start to get pissed off about it LOOOOOL

Everyone else I was with liked it though. So now I hate them too.

VERY IMPORTANT: I don't hate you! Just the film.

yeah, being cynic and enjoying this movie is a kind of contradiction

No, you could be cynical and have a bad taste in music. You'd probably enjoy it then.
