Gyles Brandreth, rather. Sorry Gyles.

Alba, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 13:46 (eighteen years ago)

Portillo for "Is This The Way To Election Day"

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 13:47 (eighteen years ago)

I have spent many a long hour in Portillo's old room at university, so he it is.

Just got offed, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 13:47 (eighteen years ago)

No matthew Parris?

Ed, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 13:47 (eighteen years ago)

I have spent many a long hour in Portillo's old room at university, so he it is.

PEDERASTY?!??!??

Tom D., Tuesday, 18 September 2007 13:48 (eighteen years ago)

nah-ah, a couple of my friends lived there last year. there was certainly pederasty in portillo's day, though; it's where he lost his cherry/achieved p*****e

Just got offed, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 13:54 (eighteen years ago)

I totally messed up the closing date.

Alba, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 13:55 (eighteen years ago)

Well mark s was telling me on Sat'day that Ken Clarke is an Ornette Coleman fan, so Fat Ken it must be then

Tom D., Tuesday, 18 September 2007 13:55 (eighteen years ago)

you did, didn't you

Ed, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 13:55 (eighteen years ago)

I predict a surprisingly high Johnson vote, and a subsequent witch hunt, particularly if he's become mayor in the intervening 11 months and 3 weeks

That mong guy that's shit, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 13:58 (eighteen years ago)

heseltine for his unconvincing hair

DG, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:01 (eighteen years ago)

You left out Leonard Rossiter. An Everton fan, a genius comic performer PLUS he's dead so he can no longer vote. The perfect Tory.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:03 (eighteen years ago)

Is Gary Numan an MP?

blueski, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:03 (eighteen years ago)

are 'friends' electric?

DG, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:04 (eighteen years ago)

There were a couple I left out. Apologies.

Alba, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:04 (eighteen years ago)

Ronnie Barker

Tom D., Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:06 (eighteen years ago)

Brian Ferry and his waker of a son.

Ed, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:07 (eighteen years ago)

Ha ha, nice misspelling!

Tom D., Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:07 (eighteen years ago)

Not wanting to suggest that Brian Ferry is not himself a wanker.

Ed, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:08 (eighteen years ago)

i too love the Huqster

blueski, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:11 (eighteen years ago)

i don't know if she's tory. the point is it doesn't matter.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:14 (eighteen years ago)

I always thought Chris Patten seemed like a fairly reasonable cove - so what on earth was he doing serving so long in a Thatcher govt? It does seem to disqualify you from basic human decency.

Stevie T, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:23 (eighteen years ago)

No Ian Curtis?

No Mark E. Smith?

PhilK, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:23 (eighteen years ago)

Where's the proof Mark E Smith is a Tory?

Tom D., Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:25 (eighteen years ago)

PAY YOUR RATES!!!

Mark G, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:26 (eighteen years ago)

Tories hated the rates tho!

Tom D., Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:27 (eighteen years ago)

age of the professional politician. i doubt many of the young tory front bench today would really have a problem with serving under a labour PM, but it's a matter of clans and positioning.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:29 (eighteen years ago)

PurgaTory?

(nevermind)

StanM, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:29 (eighteen years ago)

Mark E Smith hates socialism doesn't he? That probably makes him a Tory. (xposts)

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:35 (eighteen years ago)

I think it makes him Labour!

When I was younger, my dad said David Owen would probably join the Tories eventually. Now Owen's making noises about returning to the Labour Party. Shows how things have changed.

Alba, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:36 (eighteen years ago)

He just likes annoying people

Tom D., Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:36 (eighteen years ago)

... that's Mark E. Smith I mean, not David Owen... MES does it deliberately, David Owen annoys people just by being

Tom D., Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:37 (eighteen years ago)

Chris Patten = Poll Tax yes?

A compendium of ilxors calling other ilxors Tories would be a fine old read. Maybe someone with nothing to do could start it?

DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:40 (eighteen years ago)

MES hates socialism because he went to Bulgaria in the 80s and everyone was wearing the same brown trousers.

Alba, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

... as him?

Tom D., Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

Fuck them all.

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:43 (eighteen years ago)

John Bercow.

Peter Bottomley was (probably still is) a genuinely nice guy.

Bob Six, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 14:45 (eighteen years ago)

i sawa philip hammond - shadow chief secretary of the treasury - on newsnight last night and he has a great way of talking - it seems as though he's about to laugh at every word that comes out of his mouth. but he actually sounded pretty sensible!

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:07 (eighteen years ago)

You see this is how they win elections...first you think they're nice guys, then you think they sound pretty sensible, next thing you know they've got over the desk and you're taking it like a dog. And you're loving it. And saying thank you, can I have four more years...

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

I had dinner with Peter Bottomley once, he was a wanker.

Ed, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:19 (eighteen years ago)

But not a waker?

Tom D., Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:20 (eighteen years ago)

I had dinner with Peter Bottomley once, he was a wanker.

That must have really spoiled the meat course.

Billy Dods, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

Ed - Impression based on him stopping to help change a car-tyre in poor weather. Political views not discussed!

Bob Six, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

I pwned Theresa May for being basically 'I'm all right, Jill' re. women in the workplace when we were both on this panel discussion once. Good times.

WAHT no Widdicombe?

suzy, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 15:43 (eighteen years ago)

Every time someone votes in this poll, a bit of John Major dies inside.

Konnie Huq got in trouble recently for being enthusiastically pro-Ken in some public appearance or something, so I doubt she's a Tory.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:17 (eighteen years ago)

o rly? still hot as.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:18 (eighteen years ago)

Mark E. Smith openly declared that he voted Tory in the 1983 General Election.

I thought this was quite well known.

PhilK, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

Obviously not

Tom D., Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

blueski, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

Oh hang on - Billy Mackenzie. Also dead.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:42 (eighteen years ago)

xpost.

Did you know MES supported the Falklands War as well? Just like Jim Davidson....

PhilK, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:44 (eighteen years ago)

Jim Davidson was the only other person in Britain to support the Falklands War?

Tom D., Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:49 (eighteen years ago)

Well, I was broadly in favour.

So that's at least 3.

PhilK, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

Jim Davidson took Goose green single-handed.

blueski, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:52 (eighteen years ago)

While Mark E. Smith was back at home complaining about Ted Rogers.

PhilK, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:53 (eighteen years ago)

Tom D., Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:54 (eighteen years ago)

DUSTY BIN 4 MAYOR

blueski, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

But Ted was a Tory too...

It's a weird and frightening world......

PhilK, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 16:56 (eighteen years ago)

Ken Clarke also saw Sun Ra play live, which is more than I can claim

Ward Fowler, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 17:29 (eighteen years ago)

just googled konnie huq.

thx!

This is basically half of marcello's shtick?

I like Oliver Letwin. Not sure why.

In summary, politics makes fools of us all.

Frogman Henry, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 17:42 (eighteen years ago)

Where's the option for "A Dead One"?

Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

RJG, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 17:59 (eighteen years ago)

pfunkboy, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:00 (eighteen years ago)

look down

RJG, Tuesday, 18 September 2007 18:02 (eighteen years ago)

I'm amazed that "Tony Blair" was omitted as an option. He's normally a cert for this kind of poll.

Satire obviously IS dead.
