jhøshea, Thursday, 20 September 2007 12:56 (eighteen years ago)

my ideas so far:

less is more
lil' buddies
dwarf dwarves
elegant musings
danish wanderings
tiny giants
wee-trees

jhøshea, Thursday, 20 September 2007 12:56 (eighteen years ago)

the arboreal diminutive

Just got offed, Thursday, 20 September 2007 12:57 (eighteen years ago)

and you can get published as namer of the book somewhere in there too

jhøshea, Thursday, 20 September 2007 12:57 (eighteen years ago)

"I am the small cat"

(sorry).

lil' buddies
uh, that sounds like a title to appeal to the paedophile bonsai enthusiasts

dell, Thursday, 20 September 2007 12:59 (eighteen years ago)

i am the small tree

jhøshea, Thursday, 20 September 2007 12:59 (eighteen years ago)

hah

Seriously, who's the target audience? Americans? Japanese-Americans? People who have lotsa experience with cultivating bonsais?

dell, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:00 (eighteen years ago)

There's one even tinier class, by the way, but that's not important now

StanM, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:01 (eighteen years ago)

"tiny giants" sprang to my mind, for some reason, as well

I think that could work, actually

Vision Creation Nanoboretum

Just got offed, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:02 (eighteen years ago)

who's the target audience?

westerners w/some bonsai experience

jhøshea, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:03 (eighteen years ago)

"You too can be Godzilla (in the forest)"

Øystein, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:04 (eighteen years ago)

well i should say english-speakers - they need not be western

jhøshea, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:04 (eighteen years ago)

Well, again, I think your "Tiny Giants" would actually work fine

dell, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:05 (eighteen years ago)

"Shohin Off"

Mark C, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:06 (eighteen years ago)

im thinking it lacks elegance, a little too cute etc - re: tiny giants

"Don't You Step On My Bonsai Tree"

Tom D., Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:08 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I agree with those reservations (at least the first one), but, then, so many book titles are kinda corny or whatever. Keep it aside in case no one here comes up with something more appealing

dell, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:09 (eighteen years ago)

There's one even tinier class, by the way, but that's not important now

yeah theres some on mame in it too

jhøshea, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:10 (eighteen years ago)

speaking of which: i want my mame

jhøshea, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:10 (eighteen years ago)

StanM, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:13 (eighteen years ago)

What's wrong with "the shohin bonsai book" ?

It's what I'd pick up if I were looking for information about them.

StanM, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:15 (eighteen years ago)

xpost

Actually, yeah, "Less is More" is fine, too. I think you and the other parties involved in the naming are trying too hard.

Plus, StanM totally otm

"Thank Heaven, For Little Trees (... They Grow Up In The Most Delightful Way)"

Tom D., Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:17 (eighteen years ago)

All I can think of is overly cutesy ("The Itsy-Bitsy Bonsai") or overly pretentious/borderline nonsensical ("Diminutive Grace")

dell, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:18 (eighteen years ago)

well less is more might be it - but it is a cliche

the name of a book is muy important to sales so putting some effort into getting it right is never a bad idea

jhøshea, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:19 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I guess I forgot about the distribution angle, online sales, etc. I'm just imagining myself as a customer in a retail space and eyeballing the cover.

dell, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:20 (eighteen years ago)

the problem with calling it "shohin bonsai" is some people who otherwise might be interested may not be familiar w/the term. so you basically want something that conveys the qualities of smallness and artistry/elegance then a subtitle that explains it literally.

jhøshea, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

"The Size of Jon Williams' Penis (relative to the average penis size)"

King Boy Pato, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:22 (eighteen years ago)

even in retail the title matters alot as it is along w/the cover image the thing that will attract people

jhøshea, Thursday, 20 September 2007 13:22 (eighteen years ago)

you could chop 'vision creation nanoboretum' into the one-word NANOBORETUM. has a 'cryptonomicon' vibe, might sell with the sci-fi crowd

Why do we think that some pun is going to make it a more attractive prospect than just "Shohin Bonsai"? People into that kind of thing will surely just search for a book with "Shohin Bonsai" in its title, won't they - you're not going to be reeling in mass market punters on the strength of title alone.

Of the above, Pocket Forestry is my favourite, along with Palm Trees (which loses points because that's, like, a different sort of tree).
