Weird. This was one of those weird random books on my parents' bookshelf while growing up...Among their college textbooks there was a buncha novels. I think it sat in btwn "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" and "Goodbye, Columbus". It's almost as random to me in a way as my starting a thread on "The Great Santini". I'm pretty sure I read it, but can't be entirely sure. In any case, I have no recollection of it whatsoever. Sorry.

I read this in either seventh or eighth grade.
Would've made a good late 70's film adaptation, I think.

Great book, reading it now. Told so completely and convincingly in the voice of its narrator that I almost thought it came out during the period it describes.
