So what they've been telling us about "when mommy hippo and daddy hippo love each other very much" was a lie? OMG!
(also: A++ for the presenter's voice in the beginning - is he singing or in a trance?)
― StanM, Friday, 21 September 2007 17:03 (eighteen years ago)
This is a very sad video even if it is truly incredible. The baby hippo was already dead so why force the snake to cough it up? Was this done just to get this on film? I do not have audio on this computer so I have no way to hear the report itself if there was one.
I feel sorry for both the snake and the hippo.

please
― cutty, Friday, 21 September 2007 18:45 (eighteen years ago)
Snakes tend to do this when threatened/stressed, so they can (theoretically, not here obv.) flee.
(national geographic knowledge in finally useful shock!)
― StanM, Friday, 21 September 2007 18:48 (eighteen years ago)
Hippos do kill more humans than snakes do, so maybe this was a chance for humans to say Fuck You to the dead hippo.
Cutty, I am not asking you to feel sad about the video. This is just me.
― Miza Din II, Friday, 21 September 2007 18:48 (eighteen years ago)
This video is impressive and makes me question the sanity of people who do not find biology interesting.
― Sara R-C, Friday, 21 September 2007 18:49 (eighteen years ago)
I'd rather see this happen than have them cut open the snake just to find out what it has eaten for their statistics/missing livestock investigation/whatever. (This isn't necessarily sadism.)
― StanM, Friday, 21 September 2007 18:51 (eighteen years ago)
Sara OTM! I do not understand those people.
― Abbott, Friday, 21 September 2007 19:01 (eighteen years ago)
i'm curious to know why the "related videos" at the top of the page are all "girl caught by boyfriend" and "girl in shower" when I'm fairly certain no snakes or hippos are involve din any of those videos.
― akm, Friday, 21 September 2007 20:53 (eighteen years ago)
it is too bad snakes and hippos are not delicious because that would totally be awesome to just cook that whole mess like some kind of naturally-occurring turducken

Nah I kind of agree with Miza. It reminded me of a bunch of 12 year olds taunting an old dog or something. I just thought, like, "leave the goddamned snake alone and let it digest its lunch." kinda pathetic.

― Will M., Friday, 21 September 2007 21:04 (eighteen years ago)
"huh huh huhuh let's poke it till it coughs up it's lunch huhuhuhuh" kinda dumb
― Mark Clemente, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)
feel sorry for the snake, ok, but feeling sorry for the hippo? his check was cashed when he tread too close to the snake.
― cutty, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:05 (eighteen years ago)
that said, i also didn't hear the audio. maybe there was something truly enlightening there.
cutty - agreed, no sympathy for the hippo.
― Mark Clemente, Friday, 21 September 2007 21:06 (eighteen years ago)
Maybe the snake would have died had they not taken action. Just because he/she could swallow it doesn't mean it was one of his/her better ideas.
― Beth Parker, Friday, 21 September 2007 22:54 (eighteen years ago)
i've heard that second sentence somewhere before

OK Im sorry to delurk so soon for this but I could not let this pass without the comment that, for anyone who has seen teh "CHANEL 9" skits from the Fast Show, the commentary at the start of this thing cracked me the fuck up.
― Trayce, Saturday, 22 September 2007 05:05 (eighteen years ago)

Hi Trayce! I am glad that a snake coughing up a hippo had the power to lure you back to posting!
― HI DERE, Saturday, 22 September 2007 12:56 (eighteen years ago)
Also Tom is scarily OTM
Why have you gone lurking, Trayce?
― Tuomas, Saturday, 22 September 2007 13:08 (eighteen years ago)
How long would it have taken to digest anyway?
― Proger, Wednesday, 18 May 2011 18:50 (fourteen years ago)
