Have you been called a "loose cannon"?

Srsly I think this term is just thrown at women, esp. in the workplace. ie at many jobs I have acted just like the men (but often more responsible!) and have been called a "loose cannon" by my employers.

It's a vague enough term that they can get away with it. Does anyone think this term has a specific meaning, and if so, what is it?

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 21 September 2007 18:43 (eighteen years ago)

People who've said it to me meant (I think) "Quit telling your incompetent employees to do their work" OR "Quit calling in sick when you are sick!"

Abbott, Friday, 21 September 2007 18:45 (eighteen years ago)

ppl who have said to to me meant (i think) 'quit tailing that notorious gangster because he has friends at city hall'

ghost rider, Friday, 21 September 2007 18:47 (eighteen years ago)

hah, many many times.

There is a local radio dude (or was) who called himself that as his handle.

only person who ever called me a loose cannon was a big movie nerd who didn't like any music other than the original scores to james bond movies and refused to date women who didn't like the simpsons. i guess compared to him i was a loose cannon.

omar little, Friday, 21 September 2007 18:52 (eighteen years ago)

I think I would be Bruce Campbell's partner in "Maniac Cop" who has to dress like a prostitute through the whole movie for no reason, even though she looks like one of the Warriors' "Lizzies" but with 9x makeup.

Abbott, Friday, 21 September 2007 18:53 (eighteen years ago)

I am not a cannon, so I've never been given this one. I'm sure various employers have considered my work "loose," but not in any way cannon-like.

nabisco, Friday, 21 September 2007 18:53 (eighteen years ago)

BUSTING ASS ISN'T IN YOUR JOB DESCRIPTION, COLLIER. YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR PROBLEM IS? YOU THINK THE RULES WEREN'T MADE FOR YOU. YOU DON'T ANSWER TO ANYONE. AT THE END OF THE DAY, WE HAVE TO LIVE AND DIE BY RULES, OKAY? JOHNNY TAXPAYER WOULDN'T WANT IT ANY OTHER WAY. NOW GET OUT THE HELL OUT OF MY OFFICE
