OK, Hamish you bastard i am hooked on this thing now. Happy?

Alright. Question. Should i move to Dunedin next year?

Gimme [to paraphrase that nice mister Judd] one good reason. and an even dozen fair-to-middling reasons. each. go go go.

petra jane, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

its in the southern tip of nz and my film studies prof will be there for a conference .

anthony, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hurrah! ONE OF US.

Yeah, move there. Cool folks seem to abound there! :-)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what? two dichs?

mike hanle y, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Its not Hamiltron.

hamish, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i bet you couldn't tell the difference between our Outback and yours'...

petra jane, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Dennis Moore,Dennis Moore, riding through the night...oops,I mean THE PEOPLE.I haven't been to Dunners since I was a toddler, but there seem to be enough groovy people there to make it,like, totally worth your while.I hope they don't object to being called groovy.

Damian, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

there are too many young people here. but you are one of them so that prob won't worry you. i seem to be regarded as pathetically ancient here, at twenty-six.
cheap rent, clean air, non-hamiltonianess, farther from auckland...oh fuck i've run out of reasons. hardly anyone lives here just a few weirdoes. oh that'll sound like an enticement. umm...i'm sorry but i can't decide if dunedin SUCKS or the opposite.
anyway admit it we've already brainwashed you; you can't wait to come join our happy poly love cult.

elizabeth anne marjorie, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

September gets more interesting all the time.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

haha, Ned...i was invited into a poly love cult and all they offered you was guided tours of gig venues and pancakes!

err, trade?

petra jane, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I dunno, have to see how good the pancakes are. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

no you shouldn't move to dunedin next year. you should move here NOW.

di, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you still haven't given me a dozen reasons! chop chop!

petra jane, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

omigawd, i said "chop chop". i'm turning into my grandparents.

petra jane, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

a dozen reasons? easy. elixir in flux, the snares, hamish, liz, me, duckling, menelaus, the wharf, signal hill, st clair beach, sola monday, the crown and its marvellous jukebox, steven mason's herbal teas, delectable curries and charming personality, the mnango lassi's at ananda, the other sexy people who live here, cheap rent, everythings in walking distance... i've crapped all over your "dozen", petra.

di, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what the others said, you get to see Palace at 4AM play again, you get to root Di, you get to join Elizabeth's poly love cult, there's a 24 hour supermarket, you get to see Peter Gutteridge and Tanya Hoar stumbling around the streets, sometimes there's REAL SNOW, the 24 hour book sale, you get to drink all the student's leftovers in the mornings with Speedy, if you come in September you get to meet Ned and go to the arts festivals, it has better architecture than Hamilton, its further from Auckland, its closer to the Catlins, the weather isn't as hot so people wear clothes all the time (except when they go to KCs), lots of second hand shops, you don't need a car here, everyone in Dunedin has webdiaries so you don't have to go out to stalk people when its cold, you wouldn't be living in a receptacle for Auckland's sewerage, the F*ink comes out every week (usually with the City of Tales in it), there are lots of bagpipers, it winter it gets misty without being smoggy (maybe not a big deal if you've never endured a Christchurch winter).

hamish, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

"there are lots of bagpipers": didn't this get into the wrong column?

i liked the wheelybin thing best, no one seems to be mentioning that

mark s, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

har har har. actually thats a dud because we're not allowed to joke about it in public yet.

another plus - Dunedin has longer days in the summer!

hamish, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah but you have to go to bed (with your teddy bears, lovers, thermal clothing, and hotty) at 4pm on winter evenings.

elizabeth anne marjorie, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

that's a but, Liz?

alright already. winnar = you.

petra jane, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, yeah. being in bed is one of my favourite things and the main activity of my life, however i prefer to be dozing or bed-bound when it's sunny, or hot, or at least not freezing cold. hamish screams "like a girl" when he gets into bed 'cause he hasn't put a hotty in to warm it up, and that's not even in winter sometimes! and his hotty leaks. it's got nipples though.

elizabeth anne marjorie, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

good, so when are you landing in the deep south? (uhh...dunedin is "deep south" right?)
i'll try not to mention sexuality bla (sorry for that - at the moment i am especially mixed up muddled up shook up)

elizabeth anne marjorie, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

When you said "hotty" I thought you meant spunky bed partner. Shows where my head's at at the moment

electric sound of jim, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah his non-rubber hotty has even better nipples

elizabeth anne marjorie, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

twelfth of sometime...

Hamish has a spunky bed-partner with nipples? the mind boggles...

petra jane, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

uh, not to imply that you're not spunky...just that, uh, it's an interesting observation for Jim to have made re: the hotty...

dig UP, stupid!

petra jane, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hamish screams "like a girl" when he gets into bed 'cause he hasn't put a hotty in to warm it up, and that's not even in winter sometimes! and his hotty leaks. it's got nipples though.

elizabeth was referring to a rubber bottle that can be filled with hot water, that she has drawn nipples and a face on with biro. When she was discusiing screaming she meant that hamish screams like a girl, not that hamish screams "like a girl". oh and how do boys scream ms gender studies student?

hamish, Wednesday, 6 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i put like a girl in quote marks because you can't do the real good earsplitting girl screamz like i can.
men scream with low manly roars, in contrast to your sexy high-voiced yelps.

elizabeth anne marjorie, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

but when i was in primary school, us girls would have competitions who could scream the loudest. i would always think for sure i'll win this easy but i always got judged to be one of the wimpiest screamers
it was the same with our muscle-flexing competitions.

elizabeth anne marjorie, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

i have a very powerful scream. no-one has heard it in full effect. would anyone like to?

di, Friday, 8 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Go for it, I sez.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 8 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

you get to root Di

i'm sure thatisn't really a selling point for our petra.

di, Friday, 8 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

...but a 24 hour countdown is! heh...they have the cutest green smocks too. want.

petra jane, Friday, 8 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

six months pass...
haha thread revival. speaking of c untdown, one of the girls who works there looks like you petra. shes even inhumanly tall. hey i heard the latest rumour is that you aren't even gonna move here next year. my heart is breaking.

di smith (lucylurex), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 10:03 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
has anyone actually moved TO dunedin in the past few years? it's sorta depressing.
