Does anyone disagree with me that Marc Almond is the hottest male to have walked this earth during the last 25 years?

Just look at him!

I'd give my innocence to him anyday!

No doubt.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isZkfkO4jdE

And he's still just as hot today...

Tuomas, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:46 (eighteen years ago)

i think you'll be lucky to find a single person to agree with you.

jed_, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:47 (eighteen years ago)

Really?

Tuomas, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:48 (eighteen years ago)

are you being ironic, tuomas?

Maria :D, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:53 (eighteen years ago)

Different strokes and that.

Madchen, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

No, why would I?

Surely I can't be the only one who thinks he's totally hot?

(x-post)

Tuomas, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

Google Image begs to differ:

Jeb, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:00 (eighteen years ago)

What's wrong with that? Okay, maybe he's a bit too skinny, but other than that...

Tuomas, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:01 (eighteen years ago)

There's some serious plastic surgery going on there, Tuomas. I mean, he's really not that far off David Gest. But again, if that rocks your boat who am I to argue?

Madchen, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:07 (eighteen years ago)

Never seen this dude before, but yikes.

jaymc, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:10 (eighteen years ago)

Goth skanks like him, and they usually have pretty good taste

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:10 (eighteen years ago)

So do Finnish male heterosexuals it seems.... like him.... not have good taste obviously

Tom D., Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

Post soft cell, pre maureen lipman lookalike (ie immaculate consumptives/torment and toreros era) he was briefly pretty cuet. Otherwise no, not really.

Have you read his autobiography, Tuomas? It's pretty entertaining.

Pashmina, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:13 (eighteen years ago)

There's some serious plastic surgery going on there

Serious SURGERY! He was in a car crash (or motorcycle crash, to be accurate) after all

Tom D., Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:17 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't know he'd written one, have to check that out.

(x-post)

Tuomas, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:17 (eighteen years ago)

I wld totally read his autobio! I'll even keep quiet through the parts where he rubbishes Tilt-era Scott Walker. Maybe.

Jon Lewis, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

never thought he was good or good-looking

RJG, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

He was wearing a helmet when he crashed, Marc - that tends to protect the skin on your face. He has, however, admitted to having had a nose job, Tom, and I'd guess that's a trout pout too.

Madchen, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

Tom, sorry, not Marc.

Madchen, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

Oh god, I really should read again before I post. You get my point, though.

Madchen, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 16:31 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't know about his nose job. That's kinda sad, but I'm still not changing my opinion on his hotness.

Tuomas, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 18:31 (eighteen years ago)

OK, Marc Almond sure BUT but but what about his hotter semi-look-alike ALAN CUMMING? O my jesus. They're both gay, aren't they. Que sera srea.

Abbott, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 22:05 (eighteen years ago)

Alan Cumming swings both ways.

everything, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

YAY FOR ME ZO-M-GEE!

Abbott, Tuesday, 25 September 2007 22:18 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know who this Alan Cumming is, but he does indeed look like Marc Almond:

http://www.seemoresplayhouse.com/press/alan_cumming_lg.jpg
http://www.burnlab.net/alan-red.jpg

Though of course part of perceived celebrity hotness comes from knowing their work. I love Marc Almond's music and I can't separate that from his image, whereas to me this Cumming fellow is just some bloke.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 06:29 (eighteen years ago)

Tuomas, how weird are you, objectively?

Kerm, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 06:47 (eighteen years ago)

What do you mean?

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 06:48 (eighteen years ago)

Man, apropos of nothing at all, that second Alan Cumming pic is pretty hot actually. And I dont usually like him.

Trayce, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 07:00 (eighteen years ago)

http://www.strangeattractor.co.uk/further/archives/Pee-wee-Chairy.jpg

Ha Ha! Made you look!

nickn, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 07:02 (eighteen years ago)

Actually I was wondering how representative you are of Finns in general.

I'm only kidding around though. I mean no offense. I live in Portland and it takes pride in its weirdness.

Kerm, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 07:03 (eighteen years ago)

Stop messing with Marc's mind, Tuomas...he's insecure enough as it is.

I couldn't make it through his autobiography. He has such a flat way of writing that make what should be outrageous comes across as quite dull.

Plus I ended up sympathising with the record company for having such a difficult artist in the Soft Cell days.

He has some fantastic songs in his back catalogue and I'm sure in say 20 -30 years he'll be re-evaluated as a great songwriter. He's not always the best interpreter of his own work though...

Bob Six, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 07:24 (eighteen years ago)

Non taken. I don't really think I'm representative of anything but myself. Though I still find it weird people find finding Marc Almond hot weird.

(x-post)

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 07:25 (eighteen years ago)

I noticed that they have that autobiography in the local library, so I'll be borrowing it today. Will report back.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 07:26 (eighteen years ago)

I don't find Marc Almond remotely hot now, but there was something kind of sultry and dangerous and decadent about him back in the day (when I was 12 and people being gay was kind of exciting).

He has some fantastic songs in his back catalogue and I'm sure in say 20 -30 years he'll be re-evaluated as a great songwriter. He's not always the best interpreter of his own work though...

The only song of his I can call to mind is that one about bedsit land. Otherwise, all the stuff of his I know is his interpretations of other people's songs. Which are often great.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 09:01 (eighteen years ago)

The first song I linked to is an Almond original, and it's great!

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 09:04 (eighteen years ago)

I'm quite fascinated by his seemingly dichotomic look: on the one hand he has this babyface but on the other hand he also has these wicked tats. But would I ever feel sexually aroused by him? No, I rather hump a 300 year old tree than have him in close proximity.

nathalie, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 09:18 (eighteen years ago)

I'd love the gay/bi guys of ILX to weigh in on the subject... Maybe he just doesn't appeal to girls?

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 09:23 (eighteen years ago)

Though I have talked with my female friends about his hotness, and at least a couple of them have agreed with me.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 09:24 (eighteen years ago)

watch out for splinters, Nathalie.
I think Marc Almond shouldn't have his hair cropped short like that. he looked more attractive when he had more hair. more attractive, mind, not hot.

Grandpont Genie, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 09:30 (eighteen years ago)

Alan Cumming's arse has been postered around Scotland a lot recently (that's the publicity pic for the National Theatre's production of the Bacchae). I also had the pleasure of seeing it in the flesh because at the start of the play he is hanging upside down, wearing this kilt.

Madchen, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:17 (eighteen years ago)

Kilt?

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:18 (eighteen years ago)

Kilt.

onimo, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:20 (eighteen years ago)

Looks like a skirt to me.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:20 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah kilts do that.

onimo, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:21 (eighteen years ago)

What's the difference between a kilt and a skirt then? I thought kilts have these special sort of patterns in them.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:22 (eighteen years ago)

tartan

Grandpont Genie, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:24 (eighteen years ago)

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:24 (eighteen years ago)

this thread, that is. marc almond is prettier

ken c, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:25 (eighteen years ago)

Pleats at the back, buckle fastening. They don't have to be made of tartan.

Madchen, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:26 (eighteen years ago)

Here is an example of a modern kilt for our fashionable times.

"sub calum at best"

Calum Best is DA YUM!!!!

stevienixed, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:30 (eighteen years ago)

What does this thread have to do with Calum, Ken?

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:30 (eighteen years ago)

calum is scottish

ken c, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:35 (eighteen years ago)

Oh I get it. Because Marc Almond is English he lives below Calum, right?

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:37 (eighteen years ago)

^ban

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:42 (eighteen years ago)

i don't get it

ken c, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:43 (eighteen years ago)

As in "wedding banns"

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:44 (eighteen years ago)

"Sub" = "below" = "south from".

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:45 (eighteen years ago)

Get it, hur hur?!

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:46 (eighteen years ago)

sub/below = closer to the centre of the Earth innit. see "subway", "yo! below"

ken c, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:48 (eighteen years ago)

Well, I guess Scotland in general is further from the Earth's centre too. It's called Highlands, isn't it?

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:50 (eighteen years ago)

Actually, seeing as the Earth is very slightly flattened (owing to its rotation), the further away from the equator you go, the nearer the centre you are.

Just got offed, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:51 (eighteen years ago)

Though I guess it's possible that Calum lives in the lowes spot of Scotland and Marc Almond in the highest spot of England.

(x-post)

Even if you live on a mountain, Louis?

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:52 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe they live together.

stevienixed, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:54 (eighteen years ago)

It would be interesting to find and compare the average proximities of England and Scotland to the Earth's centre. Perhaps there is a geographer with a supercomputer, a powerful geostationary satellite and a lot of spare time who can help us on this.

Just got offed, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:54 (eighteen years ago)

But Marc could still be the bottom.

(x-post)

Tuomas, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:55 (eighteen years ago)

Fake Tuomas, not funny, move on.

ailsa, Wednesday, 26 September 2007 12:55 (eighteen years ago)

Oh I want my Alan Cumming fix, you guys were being so helpful for a while.

My friend did me the v. kind favor of showing me only the Alan Cumming moments from her "L-Word" box sets.
