The Child That Books Built

It's a new book by Francis Spufford, ILX cult author of "I May Be Some Time" - and it's all about how his childhood was informed and deformed by childrens fiction including much ado about NARNIA.

In other words it is Mark S' ideal book and therefore he is punXoR-duty-bound to HATE IT!

Observer review. There's something a bit creepy and prurient about McCrum's disappointment that Spufford doesn't "reveal all".

Its the tease and then the hide though - that is what is annoying. Autobiography without the biography. Have you ever felt that you were being cheated?

Yes - after wading all the way through "ROTTEN - No Blacks No Irish No Dogs".

Yes - after wading all the way through "ROTTEN - No Blacks No Irish No Dogs".

I fairly glided through that. Very enjoyable I thought.
