Don't come to Edinburgh - it's just as expensive as London without any extra cost of living salary allowances

Penzance

Electric shocks from imigrant hattifattners also a difficulty.

Manchester sucks. (Actually I haven't been near it much, but it seems too big to be nice and too small to be London)

Cologne's cool.

Come to Southern California and you will have your pick of the female Anglophile fanbase, who will fall for your lovely accent.

Norman Phay, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Seattle. Where bars and pubs make up a majority of retail.

Brian MacDonald, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Portland, surely :).

I would have said Finland once, but that was BBMCs (before Bomfunk MCs).

Robin Carmody, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Why Finland Robin?

It really does totally depend on what you're looking for from a place Gareth, doesn't it? For example, if you were seeking a rural idyll in England I would recommend Exmoor or the Lakes, but if you were looking for a cosmopolitan hive of utopian energy I would recommend Norwich etc... What do you want?

Chris, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Is that as in Portland, Oregon or some other Portland, Robin?

Kris, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

a) Tove Jansson

b) Yes, the one in Dorset, England

Does New York warrant a spot on this list? Or has it already been considered and discarded?

Pyth, Thursday, 7 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

New York more than warrants a place on this list. if i leave london, it will either be to go abroad (new york in pole position) or elsewhere in england (manchester in pole position). i've got a lot of decisions about the future to make this year
