School stages mock lynching with little kids; Noose found in police locker room USA Today
Noose Nooses are in the news again.
On Long Island, Newsday says someone put a hangman's noose in the locker room of the Hempstead Police Department after a black cop was named deputy chief.
"It's the ultimate symbol of disgust if you know American history, especially if you're black. It's a great insult," Deputy Chief Willie Dixon tells the paper, adding: "There's no difference between a noose and a swastika, except who they're aimed at."
The noose was found hanging from a pipe in a locker room that is accessible to police officers and janitors. An investigation is said to be underway.
The Chicago Tribune has an overview of other "racially charged" incidents across the USA.
Meanwhile, teachers at an elementary school on the campus of Grambling State University, a historically black college, are under fire for a lesson on racism that included a mock lynching of at least one student, according to The News Star.
The Gramblinite, a student newspaper, posted a story and photos of the incident last week. School officials later ordered the paper to remove these items from its website, according to The News Star. (Here's the page that once housed the story. You can view five of the photos here.)
That paper says the story reported: kindergarten and first-grade students at Alma J. Brown Elementary will always remember the day they marched for equality. The children marched in protest of the imprisonment of Mychal Bell, and the seemingly racial bias shown toward blacks in a small Louisiana town. ... Before marching, the students were taught about racism. They also learned about the events surrounding the 'Jena Six' and their arrest. ... [teachers] had a replica noose and explained why it is such a symbol of racism. They also allowed the children to carry chains and shackles.
"At this point I'm starting a full investigation into what happened," Grambling State University President Horace Judson tells the paper, a fellow Gannett publication. "I will meet with all the people involved at 8 o'clock Monday morning."

teachers] had a replica noose and explained why it is such a symbol of racism sounds more accurate than a lesson on racism that included a mock lynching of at least one student
although, lol at "replica"

For a nanosecond I misread that as moose.

so what's the issue that people have with the mock lynching?

lol at "replica"
I suppose, if the noose were made of packaging string or something similar, it could fairly be called a "replica". News reports almost never give enough information to allow a true appreciation of such details.

extremely, especially when they try it with their friends later

but luckily the noose is a replica!

This is like the ultimate expression of the "trust fall" school of team-building exercises.

black on black crime is destroying our community

this reminds me of the time my mostly-white quaker elementary school staged an "underground railroad" game during the school camping trip except that they didnt fully explain to us first graders that it was a game so we ended up pissing ourselves standing in a creek at 11PM in the dark while our gym teacher cracked a whip and yelled for us to stop hiding a hundred yards away.

Wonder what they'll do for the WWII unit.

Setting aside the unforgivable part of this, namely putting a rope around a random child's neck, this is not that big of a deal. Add in the unforgivable part and you have something that people should be yelled at, but not for the bullshit "racial" overtones being trumpeted in the article and more for the "way to endanger a child, dumbass" visual evidence shown in that picture.
I admit to lolling mightily at that woman's expression, though.

There is no way to see from the photo whether the upper end of the "rope" is attached to anything.
(NB: What follows are mere conjectures on my part.)
It appears to me that the woman on the right is trying to toss the loose upper end of the "rope" over a branch. Since the "rope" is obv pretty lightweight stuff, she seems to be having some difficulty getting it airborne enough. The child may have been lifted up because the "rope" wasn't long enough to even reach a branch when she was on the ground.
Again, it's not good to leap to conclusions from a news story.

I also like the "just try it, BITCH" expression on that little girl's face.

They may have just been doing a presentation on autoerotic asphyxiation, followed by a candle ceremony for the late Michael Hutchence.

It's a possibility!
