I just caught myself intentionally leaving in a typo.

i wanted to impress upon my son's tennis lesson coordinator that i am truly busyt

Shows that you're keeping it real.

milo z, Monday, 1 October 2007 21:47 (seventeen years ago) link

and than i made a thread title about it

Maria :D, Monday, 1 October 2007 21:48 (seventeen years ago) link

busyt looks freudian, I congratulate your subconscious cues

hahaha i love this question. i do this a lot and i can't decide if it sucks or not

Classic, though if I left in every typo I would look like an ape (or give the impression of an ape typing with its fat fingers; I would still look like myself). For some reason my spelling goes to shit when I type or write fast - everything in my lecture notes ends with an e: browne, typicale, organimsme, genese, etc.

typos in e-mails are my passive-aggressive way of saying "i am too fucking busy to deal with this e-mail. look, i'm not even maintaining my usual standards of precision. you cunr."

I can't decide if you call people cunt or cur - I'm guessing cur.

or you are just in a casual-comfortable relation w/ the person/persons. one that knows you are serious even though the capitals or off and you misspell words. ??

sometimes i'm just lazy
i used to rankle when people didn't use caps, now look at me

Maria :D, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 04:43 (seventeen years ago) link

haha it is defly a classic passive-aggressive way of signifying business.

ah, but i use capitals everywhere except here. i had a justification for that, once. can't remember it now.

i have been known to call people cunts by e-mail. not usually my bosses. but i'd say "casual-comfortable" sums up my attitude to pretty much everyone i work with, if not necessarily theirs to me.

it is quite important, that the c and a aren't close to each other on the keyboard, when emailing one's aunt.

I like to ask people to do stuff for me if they're not too busty.

Hmm. When I get emails like this, I always assume the person who wrote it is a fucking idiot incapable of spelling (or using a spellchecker).

HI DERE, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 14:39 (seventeen years ago) link

(So maybe your passive-aggressive tactic isn't working very well, depending on the ppl you're using it on.)

HI DERE, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 14:43 (seventeen years ago) link

yeh, that's probably the point: i only send these (passive-aggressive-ometer goes into overload) to people i correspond with regularly, so the change in style/tone/spelling etc would be obvious immediately. if i'm dealing with someone for the first time and want them to know i'm fucked off, i tend to be a lot more direct about it.

grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 14:44 (seventeen years ago) link

I always proofread my e-mails to cleintz

Maria :D, Tuesday, 2 October 2007 14:47 (seventeen years ago) link

(Perhaps Maria should adopt Dan's aggressive-aggressive stance)

Or read this thread:
Why doesn't some ILM posters has no verb tense?

three years pass...

have just come across typos in several, multi-edition textbooks that I'm looking at for work

these piss me off so much

like every spellchecker in the world should tell you that 'entertainmentv' and 'mulitcultural' are not words

the second one is to be found in the inside cover, in the chapter index

ugh

You just know someone did spell check it, then just clicked "add to dictionary" in a hurry.

Online they can be charming. My mom was a college English major (dropout, but she can still write better than her children) and can't spell worth a damn online. It's become her trademark.

I've noticed that pop political books have them a lot, they are often amusing.
