The man of a thousand BBC sitcom themes, passed away from complications of a stroke yesterday. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7023501.stm

The composer said he always tried to make the music fit the title of the programme - using a piccolo to spell out the title to Some Mothers Do 'Ave Em in Morse code.

That's pretty bad-ass.

Where is the love for Ronnie Hazlehurst

The man deserves threads here and there for sure.

And I really wish I'd put a question mark on that thread title.

"To The Manor Born" was THE classic. Like a kind of mellowed-out Dambusters theme.

It certainly captured the essence of Peter Bowles in musical form.

How did that other verse of "Blankety Blank" go again? Something about a "supermatch game"? That was a good verse.

i always heard it as "come on and supermatch game, supermatch game, supermatch game....SUPERMATCH GAME" but can that be right?

the clever bit was the note change for the third "supermatch game"

Any mileage in discussing "Are You Being Served" as early example of sampling or as an influence on Pink Floyd's "Money"?

Covered by Coil, too.

lol BBC pwned

Me pwned also.
I totally fell for that - i thought it seemed unlikely, but then I thought it unlikely enough that Cathy Dennis was the writer of hit songs also (what little did I know) so why wouldn't she have taken advice from a master songsmith like Hazlehurst!

I prefer to live in the made up wikipedia world.
