Illinois Middle School Says No to Hugs AP Posted: 2007-10-02 11:27:05 Filed Under: Nation News
OAK PARK, Ill. (Oct. 2) - If you need a hug, you won't get it at Percy Julian Middle School. Principal Victoria Sharts banned hugging among the suburban Chicago school's 860 students anywhere inside the building. She said students were forming "hug lines" that made them late for classes and crowded the hallways.
"Hugging is really more appropriate for airports or for family reunions than passing and seeing each other every few minutes in the halls," Sharts said.
Another reason to institute the no-hugging policy was that some hugs could be too long and too close, she said.
"There is another side to the issue when a hug is either unwanted or becomes inappropriate as judged by one of the students involved," Sharts wrote in a statement to parents. "On occasion, we do deal with those incidents. The goal is always to promote safe and orderly hallways where everybody can get by, be safe, and be on time."

they'd mostly just steal the mail or steal shit from the storage room. one 13 year old stole a credit card that came in the mail for an upstairs neighbor then maxed it out and had everything shipped to his house in his name. smart kids they got there.

― kingfish, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 01:44 (seventeen years ago)

I went to an ecumenical christian easter weekend retreat once as a teenager (dont ask... or well, do a search for my old "I was a teenage xian" thread if you must). One of the things they had was a day of various courses and discussion panels you could choose to pop into, and one was soemthign about being a young couple in christ... the kids all came out visibly upset because theyd been told anything beyond holding hands was a Really Bad Idea. Yep thats right - no kissing, kids!
And this wasn't even some hardcore Catholic or High Anglican deal, this is one of the more laid back, liberal modern churches!
Yeah I dropped the whole thing fast not long after that.
― hulk would smash (Trayce), Tuesday, 24 November 2009 02:33 (fifteen years ago)
side hugs are so tough.
― t0dd swiss, Tuesday, 24 November 2009 05:06 (fifteen years ago)
trayce i think "ecumenical" is never really that waytbh none of the really liberal modern churches i know even criticizes young people for living together, that's a more conservative issuei think if i'd been raised christian i might be an atheist now
