Ban him. He chases after a fan after being tapped on the collarbone then he gets carried off holding his eye. Cheats should be banned. Dida is a CHEAT!
― pfunkboy, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:35 (seventeen years ago)
To be fair to milan, their spokesman hasn't made a big deal of it saying it's nothing to do with them. It's up to UEFA.
So what punishment should Celtic get?
A fine for a fan coming on should suffice.
― pfunkboy, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:36 (seventeen years ago)
and Dida cost 2 goals as well...
― pfunkboy, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:38 (seventeen years ago)
Systems thinking would analyse all potential punishments in a holistic manner then pick the most appropriate.
CHEAT DIDA ! DIDAN'T MORE LIKE !

OOH DODGY KEEPER!
― pfunkboy, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:41 (seventeen years ago)
Despite never playing a match during his brief tenure at FC Lugano, Dida received a warm reception from the fans during training sessions that were held by the Brazilian squad in Weggis, Switzerland prior to the World Cup finals. During the team's two-week stay in Weggis, he also organized a Ping-Pong tournament in which many of his teammates, such as Lúcio, Robinho, Fred, Ronaldinho, and Ronaldo, participated. He was defeated by Juninho Pernambucano in the championship match, and the winner's trophy was even named after him.

Has Jesse Jackson even BEEN to San Siro this etc etc etc
Rivaldo, Dida. Fucking Brazilians. Cheating cunts.

Watch the incident here http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30100-1286930,00.html
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:02 (seventeen years ago)
I actually feared for a minute or two that he might have been slashed - dunno if slashing is as popular in Glasgow as it has always been in the past tho
― Tom D., Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:04 (seventeen years ago)
Aye, watching the replay does make you wonder a bit about the slashing possibility, doesn't it - he definitely brushes his neck at just the bit he's holding as he collapses. I think the guy was just an overexuberant wee wingnut though and Dida was milking it.
― ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:10 (seventeen years ago)
that is fairly rich from a man who's just let through a crucial last-minute goal.
― Just got offed, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:12 (seventeen years ago)
It looks worse every time you watch - Dida's behaviour I mean, not the Buckfast Bhoy's
― Tom D., Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:14 (seventeen years ago)
I doubt Dida will get reprimanded because it wasn't an incident with another player. It might still get viewed as an attack anyway. Maybe Dida's antics will mean more sympathy for Celtic though.
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:19 (seventeen years ago)
In those seconds chasing the fan, Dida clearly sensed an opportunity to get the result reversed. He went down and stayed down, leaving the pitch like a coward, in an effort to erase his own mistakes. He should received the utmost censure.
― Just got offed, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:19 (seventeen years ago)
I just hope some UEFA medical people checked him over otherwise there could be a Rapid Vienna moment and the player suddenly has a wound that wasn't there when he left the pitch. Tom D will remember that game.
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:20 (seventeen years ago)
Gerry McNee certainly remembered it in his thoroughly impartial assessment of the incident on Scotsport last night. Really old people (or anyone interested in the history of cheating scumbags) might also remember Robert Rojas slashing himself for lolz (and getting totally done over for it, haha).
― ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:24 (seventeen years ago)
Don't fucking remind me (xp). Absolutely no way whatsoever Dida will be reprimanded. I'm beginning to doubt he got hit by that flare against Inter...
― Tom D., Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:26 (seventeen years ago)
Didn't see Scotsport. I like to avoid anything Gerry McNee is on. x-post
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:28 (seventeen years ago)
Let's be realistic, if there had been any sign of an injury then Galliani, Ancelotti and (not least) Berlusconi wouldn't be saying there was nothing to protest about.
― aldo, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:34 (seventeen years ago)
This is all clearly a narrative arc leading to Dida being impaled by a metal spike thrown from the crowd, and being dismissed as the boy who cried wolf while play continues.
― That mong guy that's shit, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:42 (seventeen years ago)
No, that's rangersfootballclub paranoia. Big difference.
― aldo, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:44 (seventeen years ago)
As I said on the Champs League thread, I'm fairly optimistic of a slap on the wrist and a fine for the crap stewarding. Kerr's hysterical worst-case scenarios on this and the other thread seem very unlikely indeed. UEFA have shown a willingness to clamp down on cheating with the ban for Mikolaunis diving in the match against Scotland recently, and with Celtic fans' fair play record and every Milan representative speaking up for them, I don't see a case for punishing Celtic any more than is strictly necessary.
― ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:46 (seventeen years ago)
and, yes, no statements of the "keeper was slashed/knocked unconscious/broke his collarbone" variety.
― ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:51 (seventeen years ago)
I hope UEFA punish Dida, but can't see that happening.
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:54 (seventeen years ago)
Why not?
― ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 12:59 (seventeen years ago)
Because I'm sure they will consider a fan encroaching on the field and "interacting" with a player to be a far far greater crime than a bit of play-acting from a player AT ONE OF EUROPE'S LEADING, SORRY, RICHEST CLUBS
― Tom D., Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:03 (seventeen years ago)
what he said
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:06 (seventeen years ago)
I'll be happy if proved wrong.
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:07 (seventeen years ago)
and tom you forgot "corrupt"
I thought Platini's new UEFA plan was all about fairness and stamping out irregularities. His plan to stop the big countries hoovering up all the CL places surely shows a beginning to the end of the old regime? Also, Celtic are a pretty big draw in terms of fans and therefore money, so surely also an asset in the CL?
― ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:07 (seventeen years ago)
UEFA have shown a willingness to clamp down on cheating with the ban for Mikolaunis diving in the match against Scotland recently

You've got it all wrong, the wee ned obviously threw some anthrax or ricin into Dida's face as he ran by. Dida tried to apprehend the villain but was overwhelmed by the toxin, hence his reflex action of covering his face, but sadly too late for the big cheating shite unjustly maligned keeper as he fell to the ground.
― Billy Dods, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:10 (seventeen years ago)
The guy supposedly escaped into the crowd afterwards so watch out for a media witch hunt to identify him over the next few days if he isn't found.
― pfunkboy, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:13 (seventeen years ago)
Where was Kenny Miller that night?
― Tom D., Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:15 (seventeen years ago)
Really? You think people might want to know who the wee fucker is? I'm pretty sure Celtic might be interested in order to remove his season book from his possession forever, for starters.
― ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:18 (seventeen years ago)
I think it does say a lot about the so-called "British disease" that for some over-reacting to an attack outside of the bounds of an actual football game is a worse crime than, y'know, running onto a football pitch and attacking someone
― Dom Passantino, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:20 (seventeen years ago)
Who was attacked?
― Tom D., Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:22 (seventeen years ago)
You've got a point, Dom, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Dida's antics were opportunistic and reprehensible.
― Just got offed, Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:22 (seventeen years ago)
But who was attacked?
― Tom D., Thursday, 4 October 2007 13:23 (seventeen years ago)
He didn't fucking attack him! He hugged him! He was a wee idiot thinking he was having a laugh and the keeper was playacting like a man who's just lost his team the game and is trying desperately to get it back. If he had actually attacked him, fair enough, but all this doom and woe stuff is laughable.

Good one Google.
― aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:07 (seventeen years ago)
I can't work it out, something about whether Milan should be punished for the actions of the player?
I was hoping the resident Italian would help out.
― onimo, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:08 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, that's the gist of it I got.
― aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:09 (seventeen years ago)
Either that, or "is Dida a tumbling dickweed?"
― aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:10 (seventeen years ago)
There's an Italian in my office, I could go over an tap him on his shoulder and ask him but I fear he would accuse me of attacking him

Does Milan have an obligation to adopt sanctions towards its players
― Dom Passantino, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:12 (seventeen years ago)
Also Dud of the Day:

Thanks Dom, that makes more sense.
I think he should be ridiculed rather than punished, but I'm quite happy to let it go altogether if Celtic get off the hook.
(slight diversion: other than by using fences, how do you prevent stupid pricks from entering the field?)
― onimo, Thursday, 4 October 2007 14:22 (seventeen years ago)
A spokesman for Celtic said a 27-year-old man, who was not a season ticket holder, had been interviewed.
I told you it was Kenny Miller

Just wondering what difference that makes (if true)? If UEFA make a decision, can the teams turn round and go "nah, don't like yer boss, stick yer decision up yer jacksie, mate"?
― ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:33 (seventeen years ago)
There is a danger that that is exactly what will happen if Platini keeps annoying them. Not on this particular incident, but on the whole restructuring crap with the ridiculous plan to let cup winners into the CL.
On Celtic: a "source" has told Sporting Life Celtic will get a heavy fine but no points/result/replay sanctions.

― darraghmac, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:39 (seventeen years ago)
Well, yes, longer term, but I was thinking more of what effect Kerr foresaw Platini's role having on Celtic's immediate future in the Champions League this season, since the point I was making just prior to that was that Platini's said (and shown) that UEFA are cracking down on simulation / cheating and could make an example of Dida.
― ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:40 (seventeen years ago)

So, he's been banned for life for pitch invasion? I think this is harsh even if he did lightly graze the poor fellows cheek. Does anyone ever appeal these lifetime bans? Is there a procedure even for such an appeal.
― Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:46 (seventeen years ago)
I'd ban him from even watching Celtic games in the pub
― Tom D., Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:47 (seventeen years ago)
Seriously though, how do these bans work? I don't remember ever seeing photos up off people who have been banned. Has there been any work done on the efficiency of these bans? I'm thinking I might get a grant out of this...
― Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:49 (seventeen years ago)
Aye, the guy doesn't have a season ticket, surely he could just rock up at the ground with a ticket and get in. We don't even have dudes manning the turnstiles any more, it'd be so easy to go through.
― ailsa, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:51 (seventeen years ago)
I'd bet a few quid on his face being plastered all over the Scottish rags this week. He might not want to try walking up to Celtic Park with a ticket.
― onimo, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:56 (seventeen years ago)
Shouldn't he at least get let in when he's an OAP for copping a guilty plea?

I think it'll be rescinded or reduced in time, they're a forgiving bunch, these universal types.
― onimo, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:58 (seventeen years ago)
Maybe he could try supporting Rangers instead
― Tom D., Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:58 (seventeen years ago)
It says he's banned home and away. One thing turning up at Parkhead and not getting in, but will the stewards at Tannadice or Easter Road be so concerned?
― Billy Dods, Thursday, 4 October 2007 16:02 (seventeen years ago)
I think it means Celtic wont sell him any tickets for their end.

if celtic loses the match for it.. then if i were a manager, next time there's a crucial match, i'll plant one of my guys in the opposition supporters and get them to touch some of my players and then we win the match by default.

Touch or touch up?
― Tom D., Thursday, 4 October 2007 16:08 (seventeen years ago)
So he gets a mate to buy him one or gives a false name to the dude on the other end of the phone at the ticket office. Not really that difficult. Though, aye, I'm guessing he won't be too popular for a while and might not want to try it.
