Is it possible to describe any person in just one word?

Anna, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Mentalist.

Tom, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Hep.

Pete, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

twunt

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Cockfarmer?

Dan Perry, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm not saying Anna's a mentalist, obviously. I don't know her well enough to describe her in one word. Maybe the better you know someone the more easily they can be summed up like that. Or maybe it's a U- shaped curve - initial mystery leading to contempt-breeding familiarity leading to an appreciation of individual richness and complexity. Blimey.

Tom, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the best one i ever heard was when a mate described this woman who'd been annoying her as "unnecessary". that's such an ace insult, "You unnecessary person!"

katie, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Tiny.

Pete, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Creepy.

N., Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Serious response: obviously not, if you're going to be fair and objective but my perceptions of certain people can probably be summed up in one word. I would be charmed to find someone who could happily sum up themself in one word. After all, some people do like to think of themselves as uncomplicated and aren't as introspective and self-obsessed as err.. you and me.

N., Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

My coffee-throwing and falling over performances today lead me to think I am above all *clumsy*.

Ellie, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And anyone who'd sum up another person in one word is *cruel*.

Directionless

Simeon, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

And anyone who'd sum up another person in one word is *cruel*.

Though in some cases also *kind*.

Tom, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, Tom, I was enjoying reading the responses as pure Anna abuse. SOrry, Anna. :-)

Alan Trewartha, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

miserablist.

Sterling Clover, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was becoming slightly paranoid (it was just about the concept, nothing to do with me, but then it changed).

Tiny could be seen as alright, but MENTALIST? CREEPY?

I know I got embarressingly drunk the last time I saw you, but it was an accident, and please!

Anna, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

one back slash out and it's all mad italics sorry.

Anna, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Fontist.

Sam, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Italic overuse is the mark of mentalism. Perhaps I am now infected.

Tom, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Thank goodness for that sensible Sam fellow.

Tom, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

[said in a very small voice with pout] I'm not a mentalist.

Anna, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

befuddled

jel --, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Could a person be "rockist" in every way, shape and form?

Jonnie, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

BLURILLAZ!!!!!

Dan Perry, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

di, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't think of one pejorative word descriptions, but I can think of descriptions like 'vivid', 'present', 'tender' and stuff to describe people that I know.

maryann, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, maybe not *any* person. I have words for some people though...

Kim, Monday, 4 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Milky

It means mumsy, coddled, in a linus from peanuts sort of way. It is the ultimate put down.

misterjones, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

is that a shortening of milquetoast? (sp?)

chris, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ron Atkinson said "balak has been nothing short of milky" during the match last week. There was also a golden moment in one of the European matches where the bejewelled Ron said "getting in with a few inserters there" and Peter Drury said "inserters Ron???" whereupon Ron just mumbled and trailed off.

Ronan, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Having just glanced at the Focus Group comments I think my one word will have to be DRUNKARD. I can trace my steady progression into utter pissedness through my increasingly mental and excessive comments. I don't recall ever being that fond of DJ Pied Piper.

Emma, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Some of the reply pages should be scanned in. Your comments were far from the worst Emma - Mr Thomson should be particularly ashamed.

Tom, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Um Anna, I wasn't describing you as tiny (like I can talk on that front) - or unfortunately as hep - I was just doing examples of one word descriptions. Alan on the other hand I'm sure meant everything he said.

Pete, Tuesday, 5 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

what is this linus slander??

ethan, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

mooncalf sounds good and covers quite alot.
[it means: "a fool or a freak. A daydreamer or absent-minded person. A fool or simpleton. A congenitally deformed person. [From the earlier belief that a misshapen birth was a result of effects of the moon.]"

elizabeth anne marjorie, Tuesday, 12 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)
