Mind you watching my son play some video game on a huge HD tv pretty much amazed me too.

People drive with their FEET omg?

Mark C, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 12:57 (seventeen years ago)

Remote-controlled anything. Cars in particular, but I was also amazed by garage-openers, video-controllers etc. Basically everything but TV-remotes.
I think what fascinated me was that you could play a button, and some very clear process started (i.e. garage started opening, tape started fast-forwarding, car veered off in a different direction)
Now? Oh OK, I still sometimes think it's kinda cool.
I really wanted a remote controlled car until I got to try a friend's. It was fun enough, but I got the impression that it had to be (re)charged for two days after 20 minutes of play.

The big pencil sharpeners they had in some classrooms. You inserted your pencil into this fairly big device that was attached to the teacher's desk, then turned a handle to sharpen it. It made the most wonderful sound.

Pork chops. I thought I was the most spoiled kid ever whenever we had pork chops, as I saw them as THE luxury-meal. I remember being amazed when a school mate of mine was REALLY disappointed that they were having pork chops for dinner, complaining that they had that every week. Every week! Oh my god, so lucky!

I was gonna say MY SKULL but fuck no, I am grateful for my skull every time I accidentally close it in a cupboard door. It doesn't even hurt! Then I say, "Thank you skull for being thick and having grown inured to pain and accidents."

Everyone asked me that rhetorical insult question all my life, "God, did you get dropped on your head as a kid?" I asked my mom when I was seventeen, and she went on for five minutes listing examples from my early years (pre-age-four): falling off a roof, getting thrown off a balcony by my cousin, falling into the shallow end of a swimming pool head-first, etc etc etc...

My nurse says new research suggests early head injuries can be a factor in mental illness. :(

I actually think I took a lot of these things for granted when I was a kid because I had no idea how much effort on the part of either people or accident of nature it took to produce such miracles (particularly getting dogs to do more than sit).

I mean, when I was a kid you just went to the swimming pool and didn't really think about it, but nowadays, IT'S A LAKE ON THE ROOF!

i once asked my mom

"mommy, when did things become colors?"

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 20:06 (seventeen years ago)

"The world didn't turn color until sometime in the 1930s,
and it was pretty grainy color for a while, too."

I had a long argument with my Dad because I couldn't believe that you couldn't speak another language just by learning one foreign word per one English word and saying them in exactly the same order.
