Some people, quite a lot actually, seem to think "thank you" is one word? Why?

Also, does it seem to anyone else that people say "You're welcome" less and less? I have this theory that we're "politely" reluctant to acknowledge that the thanker was in any debt to us to begin with. It's like the demands of politeness are escalating: first you just had to do the nice/right thing, and be thanked, then you had to do the right thing and be thanked and acknowledge their burden of gratitude, now we have to pretend that there's nothing to be grateful for. WHAT NEXT??

I kind of hope "a punch in the face". It would be really funny to see someone help a woman take a stroller off a bus and for her to straighten up, turn to the guy with a smile and just pop him one.

You just want to see women punching people.

Only men

Tom D., Tuesday, 9 October 2007 15:37 (seventeen years ago)

No, women punching women is funny too. Men punching anything is played out; they should move on to the Bonaduce/Fairplay bodyslam.

I could send J. a certain ladypart change purse for Christmas and sign it "From ILX". Then Dan would have an up-close view.

It's better than the permutation of "I don't know" that I got from my family, which doesn't have any pauses and almost no consonants: "owuhno."

three years pass...

Just filled in one of those tedious-as-fuck online application forms, on finishing, I am informed "Thankyou for applying"... and this is for a respectable educational organistaion
