Foghorn Leghorn is my personal favorite, but Daffy seems like the more perfectly formulated character.

sam sheepdog, the internet hardman of the farm

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:11 (seventeen years ago)

ralph wolf as spockpuppet

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:12 (seventeen years ago)

Oh damn, this is so impossible. I wish this had been set up as a deathmatch instead of a poll.

Rock Hardy, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:14 (seventeen years ago)

oh, ILX contrarians! This is about as difficult as Best Marx Brother.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:17 (seventeen years ago)

Bugs, of course. Separated into major and minor characters would have been better.

milo z, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:17 (seventeen years ago)

actually, you probably need three tiers - cuz who the hell is going to vote for Michigan J. Frog vs. Bugs or vs. Tweety?

I wish I could find the sheepherders vs. ranchers free-grazing Looney Tune.

milo z, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:18 (seventeen years ago)

is the three bears the really dumb son that always pisses off the dad and the mom that goes "ohh henry..."

i thought that was mgm

chaki, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:19 (seventeen years ago)

is this the chicken that would sing and all the hens would swoon? I remember him being skinnier.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/08/Foghorn_with_hens.jpg
He was my favorite when I was a kid.

mizzell, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:28 (seventeen years ago)

that's not a chicken, that's Foghorn Leghorn

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:29 (seventeen years ago)

he is skinnier. he is wearing a coat that was popular at the time.

chaki, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:30 (seventeen years ago)

thats not foghorn leghorn, you ball.

chaki, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:30 (seventeen years ago)

roosters are chickens, and that is NOT foghorn
xpost

mizzell, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:30 (seventeen years ago)

I voted for Michigan J Frog!

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:31 (seventeen years ago)

i think it is, guys. here's the link

I've had good times with all these guys, though. xpost

yeah look at the caption under it on the Foghorn page

also Foghorn's hands are white

mizzell, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:33 (seventeen years ago)

Looney Tune rockists

milo z, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:33 (seventeen years ago)

sorry guys, my error.

if i had to choose, it's Yosemite Sam mostly for the phrase long eared galoot.

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:33 (seventeen years ago)

Bugs, so obviously it couldn't be more obvious.

Oilyrags, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:36 (seventeen years ago)

On reflection, I can't believe I voted for the frog.

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:41 (seventeen years ago)

This is a toughie, especially as some of them are double acts. Has to be Wile E. Coyote as he's at least two distinct characters, and the ones he's in are the funniest and most poignant of the WB canon.

Billy Dods, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:45 (seventeen years ago)

I don't care if it's contrarian, Pepé Le Pew is a god to me.

Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:47 (seventeen years ago)

GIS for "The Bunny of Seville" doesn't yield a grab of Bugs rubbing grow tonic into Fudd's scalp with his feet, so just pretend I posted one.

Oilyrags, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:47 (seventeen years ago)

His hind feet, I guess I should specify.

Oilyrags, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:48 (seventeen years ago)

Bugs, obviously, but I voted for Pussyfoot for sentimental reasons.

Michael White, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 19:55 (seventeen years ago)

I voted for Porky, 'cause he's in the mostest greatest toons.

libcrypt, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 20:05 (seventeen years ago)

i'm with noodle

remy bean, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 20:08 (seventeen years ago)

gr8080, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 20:19 (seventeen years ago)

Man, true!

I remember about 12-13 years ago when WB cartoon wear was the big thing, and Tweety was one of the most popular designs. But I've always hated him and rooted for Sylvester to fuck his shit up right.

gr8080, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 20:21 (seventeen years ago)

Yeah, Tweety is a straight-up douche. Road Runner's kind of asking for it, too.

Noodle Vague, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 20:23 (seventeen years ago)

Kind of? It got to the point where I could barely watch those as a kid, I hated them so much.

Michael White, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 20:25 (seventeen years ago)

Michael OTM. I hated Tweety and Roadrunner and just wanted them to get eaten! Wile E. Coyote is my fave.

Rob Bolton, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 20:36 (seventeen years ago)

At least with Tom & Jerry, Tom occasionally got in a good thwack or two.

Michael White, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 20:37 (seventeen years ago)

I am also failing at a GIS so you'll have to imagine Wile E's business card with "genius" as his profession.

Rob Bolton, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 20:42 (seventeen years ago)

anyone gotta answer for me re the 3 bears

chaki, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 20:44 (seventeen years ago)

Yes, chaki.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Three_Bears_%28Looney_Tunes%29

Michael White, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 20:47 (seventeen years ago)

rad thanks im voting for them.

chaki, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 20:48 (seventeen years ago)

Michael White, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 20:57 (seventeen years ago)

lolz Jivin' Bears

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 21:07 (seventeen years ago)

I love that Warner Bros had a main character who was an out-of-control rapist.

Doubt Michigan J. Frog is gonna pull in at all but he's forever linked w/the great Leon Redbone in my mind, due to this album cover if nothing else:

http://music.toptenreviews.com/images/album_images/cd471251.jpg

Abbott, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 21:20 (seventeen years ago)

Wish there was a picture of his Chapelle Show incarnation online.

Abbott, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 21:22 (seventeen years ago)

Uh-oh, now I find Redbone's hell of into the minstrel thing. Fuck. I just liked his version of "Ain't Misbehavin'."

Abbott, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 21:24 (seventeen years ago)

IT ALL COMES FULL CIRCLE WITH THIS FROG.

Abbott, Tuesday, 9 October 2007 21:25 (seventeen years ago)

Very tough, but I'm going with Foghorn. Honorable mentions: Wile E. and Gossamer

CaptainLorax, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 23:10 (seventeen years ago)

As a kid, Pepé Le Pew because I always wanted him to finally fuck that cat. I never understood why she didn't let him beat it up.

Spinspin Sugah, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 23:12 (seventeen years ago)

I'm glad Cecil Turtle isn't on there (tortoise bests the hare) or else I would demand a recount.

chaki, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 23:26 (seventeen years ago)

:(

John Justen, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 23:29 (seventeen years ago)

maybe this is a good place to ask.. what was the name of the old cartoon with all the idioms.. when then the narrator said 'they painted the town red', the characters literally did. It was one idiom after another.

CaptainLorax, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 23:30 (seventeen years ago)

that was Hanna-Barbara, I think.

"I WAS BORN WITH A SILVER SPOON IN MY MOUTH"

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 23:35 (seventeen years ago)

yeah, i gotta find that

lolololol 'cat got her tongue'

blueski, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 23:57 (seventeen years ago)

I voted for Pepé le Pew, who so far has been sadly under-represented on the Looney Tunes Golden Collections. Bugs of course was more versatile and is entirely deserving of his prominence, but Pepé's unflappable pursuit of amour is nothing if not enviable. "C'est la guerre" indeed.

And yet like so many infatuated with the promise of love, when the cat (drenched with stripe washed off) falls for him) suddenly wants him, he high-tails it. This has its truth too.

eatandoph, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 23:59 (seventeen years ago)

who the heck?!

chaki, Thursday, 11 October 2007 00:02 (seventeen years ago)

It's in "For Scent-imental Reasons" — Pepé has fallen into blue paint and now seems more desirable.

eatandoph, Thursday, 11 October 2007 00:19 (seventeen years ago)

Does he go raper?

Abbott, Thursday, 11 October 2007 01:37 (seventeen years ago)

Porky!

da croupier, Thursday, 11 October 2007 01:38 (seventeen years ago)

sir wheeze -

Red Haired Monster with Sneakers' name is Gossamer. He is in the poll.

Oilyrags, Thursday, 11 October 2007 02:15 (seventeen years ago)

ive always been partial to daffy. same with donald duck. that scene in roger rabbit where they play on stage together and they each try to outdo one another was awesome.

latebloomer, Thursday, 11 October 2007 03:17 (seventeen years ago)

remember when cartoons society could get away with stuff like this?

Ed, Thursday, 11 October 2007 07:15 (seventeen years ago)

Voted Daffy, just for his earlier incarnation(when he was green), where he was a fucking loon who would bounce around and fight nazis and shit, rather than the later craven plotting antagonist Daffy.

kingfish, Thursday, 11 October 2007 07:20 (seventeen years ago)

okay, maybe not green, but at least, the Bob Clampett version.

Daffy Duck = Jack Lemmon

Mark G, Thursday, 11 October 2007 08:26 (seventeen years ago)

Daffy. but only if it's zany out of his mind 1940's Daffy. Ya Thilly.

Capitaine Jay Vee, Thursday, 11 October 2007 08:56 (seventeen years ago)

Possibly the toughest poll yet

Tom D., Thursday, 11 October 2007 09:00 (seventeen years ago)

"I must have taken a wrong turn at Albuquerque..."

Tom D., Thursday, 11 October 2007 09:03 (seventeen years ago)

one of my earliest and fondest childhood memories was of daffy hitting hitler in the head with a huge mallet

the sir weeze, Thursday, 11 October 2007 12:23 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Thursday, 11 October 2007 23:01 (seventeen years ago)

interesting

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 11 October 2007 23:03 (seventeen years ago)

Poor showing for Yosemite Sam and the Tasmanian Devil. I'm sure they'd have done better in a deathmatch.

I missed this poll, I think I'd have picked Foghorn Leghorn out of a shortlist of Yosemite Sam, Bugs, Daffy, Foghorn Leghorn and Sylvester.

onimo, Thursday, 11 October 2007 23:08 (seventeen years ago)

I love old men who look like Yosemite Sam who have Yosemite Sam T-shirts and Yosemite Sam mudflaps.

Abbott, Thursday, 11 October 2007 23:11 (seventeen years ago)

i love the idea of them.

tremendoid, Thursday, 11 October 2007 23:23 (seventeen years ago)

tasmanian devil = ruined by overexposure in the 90s

best bugs cartoon = where he's being chased by the gangsters and keeps tricking them into hiding in the stove, then pretending to grill himself as an irish cop, then a real cop shows up and has the exact same conversation with him. funniest shit in history.

J.D., Thursday, 11 October 2007 23:46 (seventeen years ago)

yeah that's a great one

tremendoid, Thursday, 11 October 2007 23:48 (seventeen years ago)

I've ALWAYS been such a sucker for Bugs as Leopold in "Long Haired Hare."

"And whatta they do in Tiajuana,
When they wanna snuggle tight,
well...."

B.L.A.M., Friday, 12 October 2007 00:13 (seventeen years ago)

But, I voted with the majority on this one.

Daffy is just too awesome, and Bugs gets enough cred as the Looney Tunes poster boy...err, wabbit.

B.L.A.M., Friday, 12 October 2007 00:13 (seventeen years ago)

Where's Beaky Buzzard?? He was my favorite.

Mr. Snrub, Friday, 12 October 2007 01:13 (seventeen years ago)
