there was a funny onion article about north korea spending all their money on getting the bomb, and not being able to afford anything else.
why can't everyone just be friends, mum?

The sales pitch is quite a stretch. Sure, low cost labor, but severe lack of infrastructure, and I imagine "education" belongs very much in quotes here. Still, it's hard to imagine that almost any form of capitalism wouldn't be better than what they have now.

BTW did anyone read this? http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2007/10/08/071008fa_fact_mead
Bizarre story of a Jersey wannabe wiseguy / survivalist / rib-joint entrepreneur / self-styled emissary to North Korea (of questionable value and legitimacy)

well if they have half a clue after that abortion of a nuke test they've realized they can't win a war for reunification and that nobody is about to be provoked across the DMZ.
Somebody under KJI has to be looking ahead to when Elvis finally leaves the building and trying to figure out how to catch up to the rest of the world, and ditching the hermit act is on top of the list.

Maybe it's The Lex.
right. the nk govt is open to any ol scheme to make money. this is a great way to get paid and keep a strong hold on everything and not have to fuck with meth labs and iranians. the door is clearly going to keep opening opening opening because that's only path that the people in charge have got at this point. i don't think it's that significant.
http://www.nkeconwatch.com/ is a good place to watch
