silent-LY or silent E? the Tom Lehrer Electric Company POLL

"LY" is my fave -- partly because i think adverbs tend to get a bad rap, partly cuz i love the animation. so much great stuff on that show.

"LY" has long had a place in my heart. Partly because it's such a snappy tune, and partly because I get a kick out of Tom working in a verse to teach the children of America about the ins-and-outs of espionage.

However, I'd never heard the Menu Song before. The tune is even snappier, the lyrics are roundly hilarious, and the performances are great. This is my new favorite Tom Lehrer Electric Company song.

that's a classic too. with morgan freeman and rita moreno to boot.

Oh it's -LY all the way. Silent E is a close second but the narratives in -LY are a riot. These songs have been in my brain for decades.

Huh, so this show was on from 71-77... I clearly remember watching it as a kid ("I would if I could but I can't so I won't/Please forgive me if I don't"). Must have been seeing reruns. Most people my age never seem to remember it. I can't find any Blue Beetle sketches on Youtube though (and the Spidey ones aren't as fantastic as I remembered.)

I voted "ly" but the menu song is really good. "n't" is the one of these I actually remember.

"silent 'e'" all the way! he is MAGICAL and can TRANSFORM meaning just by showing up

strangely i don't remember the hound song at ALL?? "n apostrophe t" is amazing - you can tell they worked on that routine a LOT.. like it's part of some larger vaudeville act they do and they were kind enough to allow the children's television workshop to make a video of it.
