Remember that it's their choice. So long as they don't pressure you to act, what harm can it do? Perhaps you could tell them your fears. When they realise that you have insecurities about drama, I'm sure they'll be able to make you see that it's perfectly acceptable, albeit rare, to be an actor.

point them to a picture on the internet of a man holding open a gaping-wide anus. that puts a lot of people off. hang on, someone in the theatre -- maybe not.
