I think to some extent they are an offshoot of the Freemasons, but are upfrontedly into wacky stuff in a way the Masons aren't.

They trace their imaginary history back to one Christian Rosenkreutzer.

I can't remember much more about them.

Weren't they one of the 'secret powers' behind all that Holy Grail stuff? Or was that the Knights Templars?

The Knights Templar were suppressed in the 13th or 14th century but then allegedly went on to found the Free Masons and rule the world.

I suppose if the Rosicrucians are fringe masons they could be linked to the Templars, and also rule the world.

However, unlike the Templars (post 14th century), the Rosicrucians are an actually existing organisation, or at the very least were in the late 19th century. I don't think they ever actually ruled the world.

The Royal Ancient Order of Buffaloes was THE place to have your birthday in the 6th form back in the day. The Buffs, or RAOB, had a bar and that's about it. marvellous.
