despite its many flaws (feels and looks Canadian, father overacted, slightly preachy, tendency toward easy sitcom jokes) a pretty good show which will probably get better. lead character is like day-old oatmeal in a good way.

Wisconsin actually does look/feel virtually that Canadian, though. At least it does when you have an actress who's spent her career doing Brooklyn accents trying to do Wisconsin mom-talk. Also there's a Wonder Yearsiness that makes it go retro/nostalgic even though it's set in the present.

I think this show got great reviews because people expected it to be awful and tasteless and it wound up being sweet and pleasant -- it's fine, I guess, but not the kind of thing that compels you to watch it.

one month passes...

I dunno; this only got better as it went along: consistently funny, really well acted, solid plotting, just the right touch of shibboleths. With The Office on writer's strike hiatus, I think this is the best comedy on television.
